'Upside Down'
Sometimes things in life appear to be upside-down. Everything might look the way it's not supposed to be. I think it's just a game that our mind plays with us on daily basis. The world is always as it should be, simply because it cannot be different. It is only our interpretations of events and situations, based on our expectations, what makes us perceive something as wrong, or "upside down". People often see things in the very light that gets tainted, passing through unconscious filters of their minds. We can say that we see only what our mind allows us to see. This is where all those great but often vague and uncomprehensible suggestions come to mind: "Open your mind...", "See beyond what you see...", "Look at things from different angles...", "It is not always what it appears to be..." and so on.
Guess what, all those are right on! As long as you know how to do the suggested. But, that is a whole different ballgame. Talking the talk doesn't walk the walk. But, the more one thinks about the words, the more likely one is to set them in motion and come to realize that everything that happens to us, is only a function of our mind.
I found this chair hammered to the ceiling in a place I visited a few days ago. I loved the idea, the feeling and decided to take it with me. I stylized the colour scheme to add more to the 'upside-down' feeling and enhance it. Whats interesting to point out is that I also took another version, one without the window. But, I chose to publish this one, because, without the window in the frame, the chair appears to be on the floor, with image turned upside down. :) Not sure if you noticed a strong light source to the left of the chair. I very much like the effect it makes and adds a lot to the atmosphere. It appears to be the sun through the transparent roof but it isn't. It is a light on the ceiling if I remember right.
On the other hand, if things are not 'upside-down', they might look awesome and just the way they are supposed to. This happens when our filters follow our expectations. Nothing more to it. The world out there is still the same. We are free to perceive things as disasters or blessings. It is all up to us!
So, then, if the world is the same, regardless of how we choose to observe it, isn't it much easier to take everything with a smile and to be full of love?
Enjoy! :)

Magic? :D
Nails more likely :D
It reminds me of a place which I visited and there we saw a mirror pasted on the roof so when you see from the floor to the up you could have this same experience of upside down.
nice xD
One thing that's always interested me about art is it's process of changing the functions of ordinary objects. In this instance a chair nailed to the ceiling becomes a usless chair as no one can sit on the ceiling unless they're strapped to the chair.
Now the chair takes on a different meaning. The perception of the object has to change due to the surrendering of it's function. Can you now call it a chair if it no longer functions like one? So what is it? Also now that you have photographed it, it's gone through another process removing it another step away from a chair.
Joseph Kosuth One and Three Chairs may help to explain what I am talking about here. This is a concept art piece that involves three chairs. In the middle sits a chair on the left is a photograph of a chair and on the right is a dictionary definition of a chair. You could say that all three are chairs but one only actually functions as a chair. You have a visual representation of a chair (Photo) and a written code of a chair (Dictionary definition)
I'd argue that what is most interesting about your photograph is the manipulation of perception. First you ruin it's function as a chair by nailing it to the ceiling making it into a hanging ceiling object. Then taking a photo of it removing it one step away from the object hanging from the ceiling and making it a visual representation. Now if you turned the photo upside down it becomes a visual representation of a functioning chair again.
I know you have other ideas about your photo but I just wanted to share this little thought about perception using your work as a basis. I hope you understand and found it interesting as it interests me.
This is all very valid! Thank you very much for your thoughts. Awesome contribution!
If we never saw the world upside down, we would not enjoy finding China on the other side of the world.
The interesting thing about the chair is not its location in space, but what it means. Would you sit there? Imagine that it is possible, you overcome the law of gravity and you rest on those pieces of wood reconstructed. Would you also see the world backwards? Or would you just question why others do not turn around? Or in the end that reverse becomes your daily life?
Your value, @velimir, is not measured because you have made a good reflection through this artistic experience, but because you took the time for that work to dazzle you. Taking breaks on the road doesn't mean stopping and you understood it very well.
I would like to replicate that artistic intention in my country, but I don't know how to acquire some permission to at least cite the source (no, I don't have money to buy Copyright D:)
Thanks a lot for sharing!
Please share freely, as long as you keep the copyright notice :)
Cheers, and thank you for your kind words!
I recently watched a horror film with my girlfriend, and this shot reminded me for a second about it :)
In my opinion, you are right in that we see what our mind allows us to see. Sometimes our minds can play a cruel joke with us, showing us something that can scare us, but when we look at the situation in detail, we can understand that these are "mind games" as my first impression when I saw this photo.
In fact, all that we see every day, the whole incredible world is in our head. All image and feelings are processed and projected in our brains and therefore the expression: "The world in the head" can be true.
Nevertheless, the picture is excellent, not every day you see a chair that is nailed to the ceiling. The creator of this really creative person with a great sense of humor.
Thank you for sharing
Goodnight:)
My pleasure! Thank you for being so regular reader :)))
Amazing!
An open mind will prevent clogged and clogged thoughts. Open-mindedness will keep you from being narrow-minded. You can imagine what would happen if you always rejected the minds of others, rejected the idea of subordinates, or even rejected something that people generally accept. Open-mindedness will explore your mind, so you become more creative, intuitive, and receptive. That means, the higher your chance of success. Creative, different, indeed an advantage. However, it is not fitting that it makes you a narrow-minded and scornful person. Open-mindedness will make you smarter, more energetic, more social, more creative, and of course; more open to new experiences and perspectives.
Yup! very true that! Open mind makes one go forward...!
"Open your mind...", "See beyond what you see...", "Look at things from different angles...", "It is not always what it appears to be..."
Been acting lazy since 2018 started. Your words are so timing. I just have to see things in a bigger picture and stop being lazy. I think your article is great that's why you got so many upvotes. Keep doing what you're doing. You're an inspiration to many people here.
Thank you so much for your kind words. Really happy to hear that my words moved something somewhere in someone! :) Thank you for reading!
It is incredible everything that an image or artistic creativity can produce in man, many times we believe that things are like what we think we see, but if we look a little further we can notice that ideas come from above, that persepcion things depend on your focus and that the complexity of the world may be less or more complicated than it seems, but it all simply comes from you. You are the only protagonist of your life and how you interpret the world, happy late.
Nice words! So true. Thank you!
