Illustrator than a graphic novel in 10 years using Paint
Pat Hines used to work as a receptionist in a hospital where she spent too many hours of leisure. During his spare time he developed the patience and skill to create a graphic novel using the only program he knew how to handle: Paint.
This illustrator from Boston had hours to spare to let his imagination run wild, as he used to listen to stories about ghosts on the radio. Since he was not trained to work in Photoshop, he devoted himself to using the Paint tools that were within his reach. For him, this work was a form of meditation.
In principle, Hines wanted to make a script for a film through his illustrations. However, the project did not succeed, but what did succeed was the graphic novel that resulted from the possible script. The stories take place in a summer camp where terrifying situations occur.
The specific name of the place is Camp Redblood, a haunted location with deceptive roads. There, a group of young people faces ghosts and mysterious monsters. The protagonists are conceived by Hine as a group of problematic and tormenting adolescents.
This artist who was discovering his talent in Paint, began publishing his works in his account of Deviantart, which is an online community predecessor of Instagram, in which artists and illustrators publish their works.
The story of Hines, shows how a creative person armed with patience can take advantage of limited tools of creation of novel and surprising ways. An example of this is that the artist could capture details with great realism in the drawings using the enlarge tool. This allowed him to draw on a "canvas" of the size he would like.
