Art in motion (sisyphus) a ball that draws in sand technology

in #art6 years ago

Kinetic art is a branch of abstract and contemporary art that is based on creating changing objects with real or virtual movement to produce optical illusions."

In Greek mythology, Sisyphus was condemned to roll a rock on a mountain for all eternity. In our art, Sisyphus is a kinetic sculpture that rolls a ball through the sand, creating and erasing beautiful patterns forever. Sisyphus is a kinetic work of art: it is an instrument. While a musical instrument plays songs, Sisyphus plays roads.

Bruce Shapiro quit his job as a doctor at age 25 to follow his passion: use computer-controlled machines to create art. He discovered that industrial giants such as 3M and Honeywell sold their cheap used automation equipment in the local surplus market, which allowed them to access expensive components in cents on the dollar. His friends and family thought he was crazy, but his wife Beverly supported him. Building a motion control machine after another to cut algorithmic shapes in wood and metal for his sculptures, the idea behind Sisyphus came from a joke challenge: could a robot do a raking Zen garden? He was no longer in charge of cutting the material that was used in the sculpture, but it was the sculpture itself. It was also something unique in another way - it was something he wanted to live in his house. He has spent the last three years perfecting a home version that is beautiful, almost silent, and will work for years.

To perform the work, the artist considers and follows a rigorously planned structure.
Most of the kinetic works are three-dimensional, they detach from the two-dimensional plane.

Kinetic art and optical art are artistic currents based on the aesthetics of movement. It is mainly represented in the field of sculpture where one of the resources are the mobile components of the works. Pictorially, kinetic art can also be based on optical illusions, on the retinal vibration and on the impossibility of our eye to look simultaneously at two colored surfaces, violently contrasted. Op Art. The first manifestations of kinetic art occurred in the 1910s, in the Futurist movement and in certain works by Marcel Duchamp. Later Alexander Calder invented the mobile, a type of sculpture formed by wire and small pieces of metal suspended that are moved slightly by the displacement of the air in the environment.

Shapiro owes much to the Creator Movement for helping along the way. His time at a newly formed makerspace in Minneapolis six years ago proved instrumental in his artistic development. That's where Shapiro met Micah Roth - a tall, long, calm guy with an ironic smile - who could do, fix, and solve anything he could think of. After a year, six members, including Roth and Shapiro, left and started their own space - Nordeast Makers. Now, at four years old, NEM is thriving. It remains an integral part of Sisyphus 'production, and is located right at the end of the Sisyphus Industries' large production space. And Micah, who keeps the buzz of NEM, has joined Bruce and Bev as Director of Operations for his young company.
