Loved by the Sun Character Biography series: Qounan Wolfswift
Greetings once again everyone. I apologize for my recent absence, as I feared I had contracted the zombie plague. Fear not, though, I have recovered and didn't have the first inkling of a desire for human flesh.
It's release week, so I am bringing you the next character in the Loved by the Sun Character Biography series. Following up our last entry with Chief Ranger Falconnais Duskwalker, I introduce to you his apprentice, Everdark Ranger Qounan Wolfswift.
Qounan Wolfswift is a forest elf, born in the Everdark kingdom's capital, Everdark City, in the year 2886.
As a child, Qounan often found himself getting in trouble, mainly for wandering out of the city and into the surrounding Everdark Forest without supervision. The other elven children would busy themselves with mischief inside the city's walls, and would invite Qounan to engage in their misadventures, however he held no interest in interacting with them, nor did he want to be a part of something malicious and cruel (such as sabotaging stable doors so that animals would escape and run through the city's streets being chased by stable hands). Qounan preferred the solace of the forest, and was always fascinated by both the flora and fauna which resided therein.
As Qounan reached the minimal age requirement of sixteen, he applied to join the Everdark Rangers. While starting as a recruit, Qounan took the harsh berating and bottom pay grade tasks without the first complaint, always applying himself with fervor. Due to his abnormal hair and eye color for a forest elf (which ranged in shades of brown to black, with shades of hazel to dark brown eyes), Qounan was looked down upon by his fellow recruits, and often the butt of their jokes and victims of their pranks. When they trained in combat, he was attacked with malice and left the training grounds with several bruises and nosebleeds. Although the fellow recruits (and some of the instructors) were pressuring Qounan to quit the Rangers, the emerald eyed blond forest elf refused to allow them to push him out. He studied all the more, and through intricate observation of senior students during combat training, Qounan became the one administering the bruises and the nosebleeds.
This drew the attention of Chief Ranger Falconnais Duskwalker, who began watching the progress of the promising recruit. Chief Duskwalker often approached Qounan and engaged him in casual conversation, seeing for himself the drive and desire to serve Everdark that burned within. Upon graduation of recruit training, each passing student had to be chosen by a ranger to be taken on as an apprentice, and if not chosen, they would be restricted to the Ranger Quarter to carry out tasks needed to maintain the compound.
As the graduates were chosen one by one, taken on by their respective mentors, Qounan began to fear that ridicule would continue as he would be left to tend the animals and carry out errands for the stationed officers in the Ranger Quarter. Many sneers and chuckles were sent his way as he was continued to be passed over, and as the last ranger chose his apprentice, Qounan's heart sank. Ever the stoic one, however, he held his head high and awaited orders, prepared to do what was required of him. Chief Duskwalker stepped forward and congratulated the newly appointed ranger apprentices, and explained to the remaining graduates of the duties in which they would be required to fulfill. As he began to close, he looked to the paired rangers and apprentices, and explained that he hadn't made his choice for an apprentice yet. With a grin, he looked directly at Qounan, and announced that he would be mentoring him from that moment on.
Once the target for harassment and cruelty, now Qounan was the envy of his graduating class.
Throughout the years under Chief Duskwalker's tutelage, Qounan became one of the most skilled trackers in the Everdark Rangers' ranks.
His prowess with both blade and bow was rivaled only by Chief Duskwalker himself.
In the year 3000, the allied kingdom of Ivory Glen was expecting the birth of their first child, and Arch Paladin Rolandd Sunfire requested Chief Duskwalker and Qounan to escort him to relay Everdark's blessing to the queen. What was supposed to be a simple formal escort mission, however, turned into something that would change Qounan's life forever...
That is where we leave Qounan Wolfswift. To read more about his adventures, get a copy of Loved by the Sun, available November 30. Many thanks for taking the time to view my post, and I hope I've sparked more intrigue and interest to the world of Pelmythia and these heroic characters that inhabit it. Until next we meet...
