This morning I want to tell you a little about one of the most famous arts from my beloved area / city of Nanggroe Aceh which is a dance called "Ratoh Jaroe Dance" ... Last night I witnessed the opening of the Asean Games on television, I was very amazed and proud at the same time because the opening was opened with a very famous dance from Aceh, you can see it on the video that I have shared below
The 2018 Indonesian Asian Games officially started. Saturday (8/18) night WIB, the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Asian Games took place in a tumultuous atmosphere at the Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK). A total of 45 contingents were directly involved in enlivening the ceremony, with a massive torch lighting as the peak. Ratoh Jaro dance and song Bungong JEUMPA Attract World Through the opening of the Asian Games 2018. These dances and songs performed by thousands of high school and high school students throughout Jakarta attracted attention not only throughout Indonesia, but also Asian citizens and even the world. The number of dancers involved in the opening of the 2018 Asian Games was 4,000 dancers. Around 2,400 of them are students from 18 schools in DKI Jakarta. In addition to Ratoh Jaroe Dance, they will also perform various other Indonesian dances.
This Ratoh Jaroe dance is a harmonious blend of body and hand motion with the Rapai accompaniment - Aceh traditional musical instrument, which is the hallmark of this dance. So in general this dance means a medium of praise to Allah SWT that is sung and danced while sitting.

Ratoh Jaroe dance is danced by an even number of women, controlled by two syahi (poets who sit outside dancer formations), Ratoh Jaroe Dance lyrics and poetry use Acehnese, this dance is accompanied by rapai, Ratoh Jaroe Dance the dancers use plain clothes red, yellow, green and others combine with Aceh songket with the use of plain colored headbands.
Ratoh Jaroe dance contains various messages or Islamic advice sung by syahi while beating rapai. Besides that, the dancers also have to adjust the beat of the drum of a syahi with the movements they do. Even the dancers also often chant poetry to repay the poetry of syahi. Usually it is done at the beginning, middle and closing of the dance. However, because this dance is very explosive in tempo and high spirits, there is also its own uniqueness. Dancers are given the freedom to express their enthusiasm and concentration in the form of small shouts.
Seeing dozens of women dancing to Ratoh Jaroe, surely reminded everyone of the enthusiasm of Acehnese women since the days of struggle long ago. Never give up, never retreat, brave, militant, and very compact from one another. That is one of the implied messages from Ratoh Jaroe Dance, that this dance can be said as a representation of spirit and elegance.
The enthusiasm of the Acehnese women who have been known since time immemorial, and the elegance of Acehnese women clad in colorful clothing. Every compact movement and explosive shout in Ratoh Jaroe Dance is an expression of the spirit and determination of Acehnese women.
