A global view on Street Art & Graffiti | Episode 5 #MrCenz
I'm back ladies and gents, and this time it didn't take 2 months haha
I have had some excellent feedback thus far, and to be honest this keeps me going. As you can see my posts are not getting me anywhere yet, so please commenting and sending feedback. It's more than appreciated!
Today I thought it's time to introduce you all to one of London's Graffiti legends, Mr Cenz. He is a pioneer and already been scribbling on surfaces since 1988 when he first discovered the hip hop culture and graffiti art.
Mr Cenz is also one of the characters who very soon became obsessed with this new and exciting form of art. His first commissioned wall happened when he was only 11 years young, and he never stopped progressing since those days.
All this led to his current status as full-time artist, who also have had several solo shows in London and high many commissions abroad.
His distinctive art can be seen all over streets of London. It features layers of intricate and flowing typography, shapes and lines, which are abstracted in a unique and aesthetically pleasing way. I often describe his style as futuristic and most importantly as graffiti for the soul! His style is full of elements of funk and motion and fuses different skills together such as photo realism, illustration and graffiti letterforms. His work is obviously open to individual interpretation and has been described as surrealist graffiti art.
He works hard to make sure each piece he creates is very individual and distinctive in its quality. His influences range from the old school graffiti artists that inspired him as a kid such as Dondi and Mode 2 to abstract expressionist painters like Paul Klee and Roger Hilton.
His new work focuses on female faces, which he distorts in his trademark style. He works from portrait and fashion photographs to create unique interpretations, which are abstracted in a spontaneous and freestyle way to create interesting and mysterious compositions. Theses pieces are a melting pot of all the different influences and technical skills he has acquired over the years.
Keep your eyes open while walking the streets of London, and you might be lucky enough to see one of his pieces yourself.
That's it today, and I'll be back soon-ish :P Promised!
One Love,
Rahmi
