pointless pebble painting project, days 7 to 9, post three of five

in #art7 years ago

Sticks and stones may break my balls, but being a household name never hurt anyone.

so, what can I say, that I haven't said already.

I am milking my previous failures for all they are worth.
And if you look at the earnings on these posts you can see graphically how much they are worth.

I think I may disable payment on my posts into the future.
It may be the only way to carry on with dignity

This is day seven, day eight and day nine, crossing the halfway point, although I didn't realise it at the time.

I started this group (no break of course, just day after day) feeling good but I can see the violet one cost me a sleepless night and just a little bit more burned

I have previously posted an artist's statement for these works

and the first three in the series

and the next three in the series, four to six

So, here are the third group of three stones, and the texts as posted on the day in Saatchi.

I haven't edited the texts from there, just a couple of typos that I caught after all this time.

feeling a bit more cheerful today about the prospect, although this is quite probably the least successful to date.
Nice way to round out week one!
I must admit it is a challenging chip of stone, pink stone with veins of broken quartz. Proved very difficult to represent in monochrome, and perhaps more so in green.
So many more chances I will have to get it right, but if I am going to post one a day, the failures will have to go up too.

here we are, into the second week already. I'm afraid that my keyboard is dying and writing this is almost beyond my limits.

day eight of the pointless pebble portraits project. Titan negro carbón (Lamp Black) on acrylic gesso on coloured art card.

I hope the viewer can feel the pointlessness swelling over them, but possibly I am a bit premature in this desire.

this one is probably a new high in lows. :) took all night, literally and the result is probably the weakest link in the chain so far. But the chain is there, weak links and all.
Now nine days in a row.
But an important thing was learned. Windsor Violet isn't 'unpainting' material. As I suspected, but I did my test on my test piece and it seemed perfect. Surprisingly. But then I started the actual work and found that the pigment stained very strongly, and cannot be properly 'unpainted'
Also means that my test sheet isn't a valid test. There is some unknown difference between the surface of same and the prepared surface of the final sheets.
these are the things one learns. Will come in handy when I actually start the pointless pebble portrait project.
Remember that this is still a test. And I am being found wanting, but I am not discouraged. Or something like that.

If anyone would like to see an extensive, although unfortunately by no means complete, collection of SpaiNgaroo artworks, they can visit my main domain

There is some work for sale at Saatchi online gallery
and a Redbubble print on demand shop
and a fabric and wallpaper shop on Spoonflower too although many of the designs are still not available for sale.
