Skarnoze Collab with French Artist Noref - George Brassens - Part 1 - The Engraving

Hello Steemians friends,

Skarnoze here with an other great engraving project. This time I will note engrave an artwork of my choice I've been contacted by fellow artist Noref to do a collaboration.

A good friend of mine was very intrigued by my work and suggested Noref to have a look to my previous engraving. They reached to me and here we are today with our first collaboration.

I simply told them send me what you want to engrave and I will do it. Since I've started not a lot of people as been willing to collaborate so I was very happy when they approached me. They are the typical person susceptible to be interested by what I do to extend their artist possibilities.

After few days I received an artwork and I was surprised to see that Noref wants to make a tribute to fellow countryman, singer and poet : George Brassens.
Noref is from Sète a small island in south of France where George Brassens groun up.

I started on photoshop as usual by detach the different layers I will use.
In this case two: one will be the background in 16 shades, the second will be Brassens face in 4 shades.
I also increased the contrast a bit and that was it. I have to follow the idea of Noref as much as I can, he is the commissioner of the artwork.

I told Noref that I will also so do by best to bring my sensibility with the laser and program it to make all the colors popup at certain placed with the laser. Here is the finished design ready to be send to illustrator for vectorisation.

Vectors are done, time to switch on the laser machine software:

The laser programming was fast as I did not tried to go to extreme the goal is to keep the spirit of Noref artwork intact.

Now I can engrave a small sample, just to make sure everything is alright and I did not forgot anything. I use some scrap that as been sandblasted to erase previous artwork. I often have to stop the engraving for different reason, the process is still not that smooth.

Time to start the real engraving, the size chosen is 12 * 12 cm, as usual I'm filming the full process, it took 2 hours to complete, the background was done first.

The really last step was to sign the artwork and I agreed to not apply my Skarnoze Art logo, that was a condition from Noref winch I'm fine with. He agreed that I could share with you guys the details for the engraving so I can get a little promotion out of our collaboration.
