Three Pieces of Found Art

Hi. Today I want to show you some pieces from my found art collection.

I started collecting this stuff last year. There is a ton of original art out there in the world, selling for almost nothing at garage sales, thrift stores etc. Some of it is better than the other, but it's all unique stuff that some human being invested valuable time into creating.

I grab whatever I can when I find it. And the collection is growing pretty fast.

Here's a velvet painting of a tropical lagoon. I searched the internet to figure out if this painting depicted an actual place, but couldn't find anything to that effect. Still, this is nifty piece of kitsch, responsive to blacklight and it came with a cheapo wooden frame painted white.

I got this framed oil painting at a garage sale last summer. It actually cost more than the usual garage sale painting, but I thought it was an oddly good piece, so I paid the extra.

It's obviously an amateur work, but even still there is an amount of tastefulness to the design that elevates it somewhat. And while it appears at first impression like a typical still life, there are areas of the painting that are almost completely abstract. These parts of the painting that look like they might be something but aren't really anything at all give the painting a bit of quizzicalness that I really like. (Yes, I just made up a word.)

This last one is an acrylic-on-canvas landscape done in a limited color palette. The eye-popping use of orange, in the midst of dark browns and bright whites, is an unexpected choice. But the artist used the orange well, producing an image that grabs attention but doesn't look frivolous.

Like I said, I have a whole lot of this found art and I will certainly post more if it seems like there is interest.
