This painting, like it’s sister “Supernumerary II”, is based upon an exploration of what would happen if i overlapped 3 “visual octaves” in the same painting.
R= 48, 24, 12
O= 24, 12, 6
Y= 16, 8, 4
G= 12, 6, 3
B= 9.6, 4.8, 2.4
I= 8, 4, 2
V= 6.8, 3.4, 1.68

So if you closely examine one of the convergence points, you’ll see that the order of colors goes ROYGBIVGBIVGBIV.
I than added “embellishments” in the “foreground” or top layer of this design, riffing on the idea that both a 2 inch circle and a 4 inch circle can both be INDIGO in this color map.

This piece was completed in the summer of 2017, after roughly a year’s worth of work.

Amazing one! Love the 3d details, first I thought it was some kind of painted effect until I saw closer, really intrigued by the octaves / color range system you are using @rainbowlasagne 😀 I recently read about the light spectrum / frequency of each color, trying out different ways of selecting the palettes

Thank you! I achieve the 3-D dot effect by mixing a 2 part polymer thickener into my usual paint base (which is my own formula). It’s very tricky, to get the proportions of chemicals just right, and i do it with the windows open because it does make a toxic fume. Then there’s a very limited working time before the paint sets up and hardens, so, i usually spend all day just focused on making those dots before my paint seizes up.

Also, it’s very hard to get the dots to dry perfectly shiny, like candies, they often end up pitted like the lunar surface, and require extra layers to be nice and smooth = a lot of work!!!

They look amazing! 😍 I can't even color like that, much more so paint! wow!

Thank you! This work is a personal journey of exploring mathematics, color, harmonics, and patterns and as my inner sense of organization grows my outer paintings become more and more complex. It is work that i love to do, and find it very joyful (not choreful at all).

I’m just beginning the drawings for a new series of paintings, and that is also exciting, i’m free to explore different images and combinations of pattern like a jazz musician riffing playfully. In fact, i listen to a lot of wonderful jazz while i draw and paint!
