Collage Experiment 1 - Prepwork for an Encaustic Painting.
I had hosted a narrative with paint class about a month ago, wherein the first step was that I had everyone make a collage from the magazines I provided. It was in part to make sure they had adequate reference material to work from, and partly to show them that the puzzle pieces they want when they're trying to create a cohesive narrative are not always the ones they're going to get.
The magazines weren't entirely chewed up when the class was over, but I wouldn't want to reuse them on the next class. It's frustrating being told to commit to a task and not having the materials you think you have, so for the next class I'm going to get fresh mags.
I've made a couple of these. I'm going to try a few things with them. Mostly, I want to scan them, print them, and use them for image transfers in encaustic paintings that I'm looking forward to getting into. Mikey's annexed the hot plate for the vertical gardens he's been working on, but when there's a gap, or when he's done, I get to play with this art form that I've tried all of once. I'm excited.
I think my Whisper painting will be done by tomorrow, but definitely by Saturday! That's exciting!
