Bortnik is a painter and graphic designer. His work was influenced by Cubists, Expressionists and Constructivists. In 1922 he went to Weimar, where he studied the principles of the Bauhaus. Upon his return, the master founded a school for the followers of the Bauhaus, and then became director of the Academy of Arts in Budapest.

"New Adam" is a paired picture for "New Eve". The figure is placed in a futuristic deserted space. The hero, whose body is made up of geometric figures, is depicted alone, surrounded by warm colors, in the middle of a cold world. Unlike his Old Testament prototype, he cannot possess it.

Adam is locked in a cramped space bounded by glass partitions. The world around him is faceless and unfriendly towards humans. The character's face is conditional, he himself is a mechanical doll that can be wound with the handle of a barrel organ, and yellow-pink colors around emphasize this toy image in a deliberately strict suit even more.
