How I got Hokusai's The Great Wave work of art!
'The Great Wave off Kanagawa' is the most famous Japanese woodblock print from Japan. Made by Hokusai Katsushika around 1832 in Edo (Tokyo), Japan.
This design was part of Hokusai's design series called the 36 views of Mount Fuji. You can see Mt. Fuji in the background while the three tiny slim boats navigate the huge waves.
WHERE DID I GET THIS WOODBLOCK PRINT?
This print is a reproduction (wish I had the original! It is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art). I was able to get it reproduced by a fantastic woodblock printer named David Bull. David is located in Tokyo and has a thriving woodblock print shop there. Here is the link to his website: www.woodblock.com
Here is another print that I own:
Hope you enjoyed these works of art!
best,
Paul
