My dad, Michael Waterman and some of his artwork

I've been vlogging and blogging about my music here for a few months, and every once in a while I'll make a video in my dad's studio. So, I thought I'd introduce my dad, or at least his artwork.

Michael Waterman started painting when he was 4 years old inspired by watching his own father, the late Alfred Waterman, who lived and painted till he was 90 years old. I'll probably do a post for Alfred, my grand father at some point. Michael participated in many solo and group exhibits, won a number of awards and even completed his first commission (a 75 foot mural) before he finished high school in 1965. He was awarded another scholarship to the Art Students League, also in New York City after having taken First Prize in the Scholastic Magazine National Art Competition.

After returning home to Portland, Maine, this critically acclaimed Maine artist has had more than 3 decades of exhibitions, solo shows, television and radio interviews and commissions. His exhibitions included a 1988 retrospective at the University of Southern Maine which inspired art critic Edgar Allen Beem to observe that Waterman “possesses an authentic vision of Portland such as no other artist in the area quite manages.”

This first painting of his is called, "Angelus." It's 21x25 and is Oil on Canvas, my dad's main medium. It's from 2011.

This next one is called "Shopping" and it's 11x14 also an Oil on Canvas from 2016

The last selection is called "Twilight Harbor," it's 25 1/2x 36 once again Oil on Canvas and was painted in 2003
