I was chasing Illusion instead of Reality

Hi! I am @observer! ART - Student from BERLIN - I give you intimate insights into an ongoing process Pt. 2!

As I started to get lost in the illusive qualities of my work I saw myself stuck in a narrow-minded perspective. I asked for something that goes beyond a technical-skill-question, and what I found was the strong emotional character in some of the drawings. But this used to become only visible when I drew people in real life instead of a photo. Real life means your personal physical presence creates a tension between you and the observed person. If he/she knows, you can actually feel it.

xx

But how to judge whether you are pursuing the right or the wrong?

Changing Perspectives

At this point as I was sitting at home and drawing for hours. The more realisitc it got, the better it was. But wait. Is this realistic..? Is this reality? Isnt it just a plain copy of a copy (photograph) of something real? But what is real then? I realized I was trapped within my own built borders. But only because I could see them, I was actually able to overcome them.

  1. Imagining a border from first persons perspective
  2. Imagining a border from third persons perspective

I stopped copying from photos to loose the ‘standardized’ hand and went for one year by the metro, drawing passengers.

In a technique where you have to be quick, you will minimize your equipment to its basic needs. By just using two means: a pencil and a paper, your sensual approach to your tool is incredibly rising. Eye and hand coordination become seamlessly fluent, and I became a part of my immediate environment.

First picture - that you?

Nope ;-P I used to know her, its quite a while ago.. The drawing is from January 2012!

Beautiful art! Love your post. You should checkout the @mindunleashed! 🐣

Your post has kind of inspired me to start sketching again. I"m going to try the quick style and just get strokes down.

I prefer the line drawing style rather than the careful photo-realistic one. The first expresses reality so much better.

Thats exactly my experience! The line becomes kind of autonomous and the drawing lives by itself... Later I tried to expand that idea also on the content..

Great art and thanks for sharing your insights! Upvoted and Followed :)

Thanks! Follow me if you want more ;-)!

Great work, looking forward to your future posts.

Nice post and great drawings, your ability to capture the mood of these people is amazing.
When I was in Art school a professor let us design the stage for a play. When we went to the rehearsals we were also drawing the actors. It forced us to only capture the essence and suddenly you also have all these movements happening that somehow you want to find a way to get on the paper, this makes the whole drawing more alive, something that is less obvious when drawing from a picture.

Your images aren't working yet! look forward to seeing them :)

@fotoflares NOW THEY ARE! Dammit the editor always killes the links...
