Art Flops: That Stupid Fox Thing
In the past I've posted a few 3D models onto sketchfab, and some of them I'm still working on til' this day, but sometimes a project can only go so far before you lose track of the goal in mind. There is a anthropomorphic fox I've been working on for some time now that Is going through that phase and I've gotten to the point where I just want to take most of the model back to the drawing board and start over with some of it's elements as reference tools for another, Improved model.
But, instead of just shoving away in a folder somewhere on my hard drive, probably never to be seen again; I've decided to start posting a series of articles called 'Art Flops', because there are just some works that could have been great, but just weren't great enough or had a critical issue that throws them back the drawing board.
Arms Not Included. Had deleted the arm faces on the retoplogized model as they were far to dense, overall the mesh density was still too-high on the chest, back and abdomen.
You can see how much definition I retained during the retopo process until I decided to take the model back to the start.
Again, overall nice loops and definition, but this would be far too much to rig in a game-ready model, for animation it could be done, but not very cleanly due to how much weight painting cleanup would need to be done. There is an extension being worked on that is designed just for driving muscle deformation at least, which would make this unnecessary. (shape keys would also work) All of this detail should have been retained in a normal map for the sake of making life easier in the rigging process.
Hope you guys enjoyed this, Probably going to show another model soon that is probably going to be reworked too.
As a little treat, here is one of the more poorly rigged and earlier iterations of said model
as you can see, he needs some TLC; and the current reworks just haven't cut it!

I dig the art flops, thanks for sharing!
Pretty cool!
