Batik and sewing project(wrap dress)
What to do with the practiced or tested material? Here is what I did!
One of the day, my teacher mentioned a "marble technique" while we were discussing. It sounded dreamy, elegant imagining of marble sculptures I have seen.
So he showed me the way to do it. You could see it in the photo of the furtherest edge, bluish and yellowis portion. He said 1 dark color, 1 light and diluted color, and clear water is needed.
By the way, this material we used is cotton so no sweat! He made a stroke with dark blue, then immediately layed diluted yellow overlapped on the blue edge. Lastly, brush stroked the clear water layed overlapped on the edge of yellow. As the colors settled and dried, it looked beautiful!
I tried with dark blue, diluted purple and water. Well, it was my first try so now I know I should have chosen more contrasted color.
It was a practice and fabric was not enough to make mens shirt, which I used to do for my hubby, it was on my shelf for few months. It always jumped into my eyes but not sure what to use it for.
Then, last Christmas I had a drive... drive to make a wrap dress with printed cotton. It was a success! I will write about it in different post perhaps.
I measured myself and modified the pattern I found online, it was a perfect fit!! And this gave me a more confidence and joy of self-tailoring.
Oh, and I did modified it as 1 single piece instead of seperated into upper and lower torso, so I didn't have to cut my batuk into more pieces and the design would flow smoothly.
So another few more months later, on Friday that day, I thought of making my very first batik clothes all for me, that is another wrap dress. Yes, wrap dress is my trend now...
But this time, no sleeves. My place is in tropical climate and also wanted a variation of style.

The front layer is intact with inner side seam by tying, so I can adjust it when I gain weight or ate too much food:)

きれいな布ですね~。
ありがとうございます!練習で染めたんですが、うまくいって良かったです^^
The back looks a lot like the steem logo, but in a more organic free form way. I like the different colors on each side too. ☺
Thank you @enternamehere! Oh really? I have never thought about it that way, but it does look like the logo!
Love the marbling effect on the batik dress @naomipangolin:)
Thank you @dianadee! Very encouraged :))
I also learnt some batik at dress design school in Cape Town. It is such an exciting and rewarding hobby! Even better if you can turn it into a business. @naomipangolin :)
That is very nice @dianader! Yes, true, if my hobby would turn into business. I am doing it slowly together with looking after my family. I will post more batik work soon!
You are inspiring me, to create more batik and dress designs @naomipangolin. All the best for your projects, going forward! :)
