The Yearly Kala Ghoda Festival - Part 2

in #artyesterday

Yesterday I wrote about the Kalaghoda festival and shared some art work photographs from the festival. Continuing further on the 9 day long festival which celebrates arts and culture of the city and nowadays not only limited to the city but also shares a platform to promote the culture of other cities of India. This year the festival completes 25 years and hence there has been a lot of enthusiasm in making it special.

In the past this festival has had art in many various forms, but this year it was all around the Horse, as the name goes Kala Ghoda, so any concept that had to be showcased had to be done around the horse theme, and I must say it has been done very artistically and creatively by all the artist participating in the festival. The themes picked up have been all around climate conservation, sustainability and promoting awareness on the increasing levels of pollution.

This is a Sea Horse, made from all plastic trash. It is talking about how our oceans are getting polluted with the plastic dumps and disturbing and polluting the marine life. This piece of art is requesting viewers to find a sea horse within each one of us to face the adversities of the damage that we are creating and work with responsibility to save our oceans.

I really did not understand the meaning of this one, but I liked the creation of it.

This is a pretty one, in front of it is a mirror. It says mirror of change. The colorful horse is made of plastic waste and on the mirror there is another 3D steel horse which is made of Milton reusable bottles. It talks about how we can bring sustainable change by reusing the old plastic waste.

This horse is a display of the city's culture some of the olden days and some that you can still find the presence of. Like the tiffin boxes which we normally call as Dabbas, the trunks of the olden times. It tells a story of past, present and future. The horse also has a transitioning from black to silver, showing how this festival has also evolved over the years.

This one is called the timeless gallop. It represents how our life is always in motion and we are always speeding to progress. It is encouraging the viewers to find the balance in life, when one moves forward one must not forget to live in the present. It's a very beautiful concept. I loved the whole presentation of it.

This one is called the weaved horse. It's a fusion of traditional and contemporary craftsmanship. It also wants to show that as we progress we must also stay connected with our roots and traditions.
