[Watercolor] Irbid Camp - Lack of hope

in #art7 years ago (edited)

I have completed this painting in university as part of a course on urban design. It shows one of the largest Palestinian refugees camps in northern Jordan (Irbid Camp). This camp was originally established as a result of the Nakba in 1948.

The idea of the work is to show how the urban environment evolved over a long time. First, there were tents and the hope of return was very high. Then as hope decreased the tents were replaced with mud shelters, and then later some mud shelters have started to be replaced with concrete and stone houses. The decreasing hope of return, fast population growth, and lack of planning resulted in a random town.

I drew it first with a pencil and then painted with watercolor.
