Guardian Lion Statue In Bhaktapur, Nepal - My Photo From 1989
I spent a semester abroad in Nepal in 1989. This picture was taken in Bhaktapur which is not far from Kathmandu. Some of these statues are ancient. Many statues and temples in the area however have been damaged or destroyed in earthquakes and subsequently rebuilt. I believe the lion was meant to be a guardian or protector.
