I could eat a whale
We are closing in on the final chapter of my collaboration with @verbal-d. This is the illustration for the 11th chapter of his story " They Didn't See It Beneath Them". Here we have the Megalodon going after the blue whales once more.
The entire drawing is done in windows paint. Here I'd like to share some pictures of the process along with an animated gif at the end as i've done in the previous ones.
this the first phase, a very rough sketch. There are no layers in paint so i just work on the same canvas refining it till the finished drawing
this time a couple of alternative sketches were made as @verbal-d wanted to show more of the sharks teeth
I didn't quite get the feeling i wanted from these so we just went with the first one.
I had a issue with the angle to show the teeth, so i went with the more straight tail at first, but it missed the dynamic from the initial sketch. So i took few steps back and returned to that one.
The teeth were missing in the first one so i went and added that. Also i wasn't happy with the pelvic fins so i changed them.
There was a lot of grinding of the teeth here with some amusing effects until the final form was reached.
Final request was to make the top darker as it would be on a great white. I did that and did some subtle stripe pattern to finish it off. So here is the final image again and a gif of the whole process below as usual. Only one drawing left on this project and i'm pretty excited about that one. Thanks for checking this out.
This is the story i'm making these for

Wow so cool
Thank you
Awesome to see the process, Mikko. I'd love to document mine more, but I can't seem to stop myself and make pictures while I'm working :-/
And looks like you made the right choices along the way, even with some detours you took :) Good stuff!
Thank you Marty! These paint works make it pretty easy as i just save a new file everytime. Actual painting is more challenging but i get some thinking breaks and sometimes the picture helps as there isnt much space to step back in our studio to have a good look
Love this! Looks like scratchboard.
Thank you. I don't think i've ever tried working with real scratchboard but going to keep that in mind
I highly recommend trying clayboard. It's roughly the same as scratch board but thicker and does not come with a coating of black ink. Instead you can paint in the black ink areas as you see fit then scratch them away.
This post of mine has an example https://steemit.com/art/@terrorfirma/scratch-board-skull
oh, that seems interesting as i like to ink as well. thanks for the tip.
