A different kind of watercolor painting! Progress and thoughts.
Hi everyone!
Today I want to share a little watercolor I made the other day that is a bit different from my usual work.
"Imagining faces" watercolor painting, painted on A4 Hahnemühle bamboo paper.
This watercolor painting was created from imagination without any pre-drawing.
It was such a liberating experience and even though the drawing is a bit if if you start getting all technical that's ok! It's ok because with this painting I just wanted to play with water and paint!
It's incredible how spontaneous and alive watercolor painting is as a medium and if you let go and let it flow a bit without trying to control it too much you can get some really interesting and surprising results.
Here are some of the stages that the portrait went through;
To explain the process will be a bit challenging because I didn't really paint with a plan or with clear steps in mind. I hope that you find the development of the painting fun to watch non the less! 😊
To make these spontaneous paintings are great for practicing direct painting and to get to know your medium. Sometimes when I create my paintings I get too caught up in drawing mistakes and forget to let loose and have fun with my paint.
I find that this exercise helps with that.
Do you have any projects or exercises that you do to gain a fresh eyes and new perspectives on your practice?
As always I hope you are all having a wonderful and creative day!
😘
This is beautiful...great work!
Thank you so much @ftender! :D
Well done!
Watercolour is really a challenge when one is used to paint with oil. Me I tried and failed :D
You managed to do it! Congrats!
Thank you very much for your compliments @pgr! :D
Outrageously good especially working with imagination only. Gorgeous result.
