Preparations for the Maintenance of an Emergency Generation System (Electric Generator Motor)

To carry out the provision of maintenance service for emergency generation systems; it is required to comply with the following aspects:

• The personal protection equipment corresponding to the regulations must be placed on: gown, gloves, boots and protective glasses.
• Check the previous maintenance records (maintenance routines) to be aware of the status of each of the motor-generators and their elements.

Preparations for starting the engine for start-up after prolonged stops.

• Take and fill the corresponding maintenance routines while executing the activities. "Maintenance Order"

• It is not necessary to remove preservatives from motors treated with a means of protection. Only wash valve stems, open valves, with a mixture of oil and lubricating oil (mixing ratio 1: 1).

• Control of the pipes and screw connections.

i. Check the fixed seat and the impeccable condition of the following parts:

 All the pipes.
 Screws.
 Flexible tube connections.
 Rubber sleeves.
 Hose connections.
 Mounting screws for mounted machines.
 Anchoring screws.

Preparations for the cooling installation.

If there is indirect cooling, fill the installation with water coolant. To this effect purge the air from the water chambers and the pipes. Also fill the pump with natural water with water through the filling funnel.

If sea water or brackish water is used as a coolant for the natural water circuit, follow the following instructions:

• For the establishment of an anticorrosive film, wash the supercharged air cooler at least 8 days after start-up with clean, oxygenated seawater. The running of the supercharged air cooler with brackish water is detrimental. For this reason it is useful to wash the refrigerator at regular intervals with clean seawater for the formation of the protective film.

Preparations for the lubrication circuit

• For switchable oil filters always take care that both filters are in operation. Individual commissioning is only allowed for a short time in order to clean a filter or change a cartridge.

• Turn the engine briefly until the pressure gauge shows pressure.

• Check the oil level, replace the missing quantity up to the upper mark of the dipstick level.

• Remove the filler cap (1) on the speed regulator and fill the oil with oil.

Preparations for the fuel circuit

• Drain and clean the fuel tank and fill with diesel fuel.
• Bleed the air from the fuel circuit

Startup preparations

Remove any leaks that may exist. Fill cooling water. Check the oil level in the crankcase and in the speed regulator and if necessary supply. Check the battery voltage.
