Tried to get my inner Bob Ross to come out and play (Watching the Joy of Painting and painting along)

in #art7 years ago

For those of you deprived of PBS, you may have missed Bob Ross. This guy... he makes painting look simple. Like, dab on some color, swish with the fan brush, couple scrapes of his paint knife/wand and voila, gorgeous landscapes.

Well, I recently found out that ALL of Bob's shows are on YouTube, on the Bob Ross channel. So, after buying a bunch of paints (more about that later) and a couple pre-primed canvases, I picked a random show and began to paint along.

It'd been years since I watched the show, and so that's what I'm blaming when I started following along and heard a very important point that I seemed to forget: I bought acrylic... but Bob uses oil paints. They react differently, and so I had a much harder time trying to emulate his skillz because acrylics don't blend like oils.

But I made it through and completed my first landscape. Huzzah!
