Art Scene Back Home Seems to be Alive Thriving

in #art8 years ago

So I loooooved being back in Fort Worth for a week or so, getting to see some of the things that have changed over the past few years is interesting.

I miss it all so much.

One day I wanted to go downtown, just to see the old fave neighborhoods and kinda on a mission to find some street art murals I'd heard about to take pictures.

Well that quest didn't go so well(all though it was more about the adventure than anything for me) when I did find one of them because a lot of construction stuff was in front of it.

As we walked and explored around my old fave places to go eat, I snapped a few pics. Magnolia has such cuteness to it, and I'm told there's some bed and breakfasts set up there now too.

I used to joke with my sister about how funny it would be to live around there and be able to just walk or bike up to eat at all the different places when we didn't want to cook. Silly idle day dreams, hehe.

But then I found some art after all! More AS a wall instead of ON a wall, and wondered about it's strange placement...

It happened to be where we've had art goggle events before, and this looked like some pop up gallery. It would have been great to get my mom in beside the giant face, since she's such a short person. But she wouldn't have any part of that idea for some reason.

"OH NO we thought, they didn't finish setting up and now it's going to get rained on!"
...and wait a minute, is that the same lizard (or a relative to the fat one) hanging above the door in my picture? HMMMN!

So then I came home and googled it to see what exactly it was about. This is what I found: Art Tooth -A new hybrid gallery project is feeding Fort Worth’s appetite for modern art, looks like maybe I missed it by a month:

"On Saturday as part of Arts Goggle, Art Tooth will debut another endeavor. The Pop Up Print Project will feature prints by 10 emerging and established artists. "

Still left wondering and wanting more details, I guess that's a good thing. Staying art hungry!

In my google hunting I also found this site Live off of Magnolia Ave about that neighborhood, and they have a picture of the same house In my first shot, but from the other side.

It tells me that neighboring building is now(or in june it was) a new crepe and hot dog place.
Interesting!

Too bad we didn't get to go check that part out too.

Last year my sister and me got to go to a new place for lunch and it became a fast fave for us, but it seems to already be closed down now. That was actually in my other best hood to go out to(where our art supplies store is) which also happens to have it's own magazine about the going ons about there. West 7th is all about that place, all about that place, no trouble...

There was a restaurant that had regular live music playing too.

I remember picking up a copy of that whenever stopping in at the camping store. Now I can just check it online to get some idea of what I'm missing out on.

Hey look they have a farmers market there now, that rocks!!

This was the outdoor store backwoods I loved just looking around in there whenever possible, and they used to have some classes and events too. The classes and events at central market(it's owned by HEB which is the only place we shop down here, but we don't get a big Central Market like there. Hmph.) were fun too.

And then when we got the food parks BAM talk about booming action exploding there.

Here's another site the city has highlighting that same area(and a selection of other districts too)

I just love how they celebrate and embrace different little areas and scenes, and a lot of people never even know about those things going on. It may not be the Big D, but it's also not just Cowtown and stockyards either. :)

It's strange how there's this love/hate with our hometown, my best friend(he passed away several years back, last month was actually the anniversary so this is very fitting for feelings while writing this post) had the same relationship with it as me, really not sure if anybody else "got it" the way we did.

He would get so frustrated here and just have to "Get the hell outta Texas" swearing never to come back. Then I did too, our timing was a little bit off and reversed and we would wind up telling each other how homesick we were for certain things and pining about this or that after all of that.

I guess it's just because Texas can be kind of like an abusive relationship for both a gay dancer and a hippie vegan chick. We would NEED to take a break for awhile, then come running back into it's magnetic arms again. Heh.
