Dog Lovers Hate Her: See How She Learned To Draw Mans Best Friend Using This One Simple Method

in #artlast year

For as long as I can remember, I've been obsessed with dogs. I grew up with them and even had a brief stint volunteering at my local animal shelter as a teen. Even now as an adult, dogs bring me so much joy. Their happy faces and wagging tails never fail to lift my mood.

While I may not be the most talented artist, drawing has always been a hobby of mine. So a while back I decided to combine my love of canines with some creative doodling. Boy, was I in for a surprise - drawing dogs is harder than it looks! Their anatomy is deceptively complex with subtle curves and positions. But I was determined to learn, so I practiced often with the help of some online tutorials and photos of my pup Baxter.

Here are the basics I've picked up over time on how to draw a simple yet adorable dog:

Start with an oval or egg shape for the body. This will be your foundation. Make sure to leave space at one end for the neck and head.

Add a triangle or other shape for the muzzle/snout. Draw it emerging from the top of the oval body shape.

Sketch in basic guidelines for the facial features - two big round eyes, a triangle nose, boxy cheeks. Tweak the eyes so one is a bit higher than the other for that classic puppy-dog look.

Outline the ear shapes on either side of the head. I like drawing floppy pennant-style ears, but you can do pointed ears too. Place them high up towards the top of the head.

Draw a simple curved line for the neck connecting the head to the body oval. Add a small triangular shape at the bottom for the chest area.

Now start detailing! Add lines on the snout, cheeks and ears to define fur texture. Sketch ovals inside the eyes and triangle for the nose.

Move onto the legs. Draw curved lines emerging from under the body for the front legs. Add paws with cute little toes sticking out.

Repeat for the back legs, curving them back behind the body. A fuzzy tail finishes off your pup!

Explore different poses like sitting, standing or jumping. Play with proportion, size and expression. Most importantly, have fun with it! With practice your dog drawings will come alive. I hope these tips help you capture man's best friend on paper too. Let me know if you have any other questions!
