Sculptures of the campus

Below is each of the sculptures located on the university campus, made by different artistic characters chosen by Carlos Villanueva, which contributed to the recognition of the Central University of Venezuela as a cultural heritage of humanity.

Title: Pastor of Clouds. Author: Jean Arp. Year: 1953
Description: Also called bronze cloud, it is a cloud that has stood up, that preaches and teaches in a variable attitude of poetry and dream. The sculpture rests on the floor to achieve a more human impression and the bronze stands out in a light color, having as background a ceramic by Mateo Manaure.

Title: Culture Author: Francisco Narváez. Year: 1954
Description: made in bronze was originally located in the Central Library Building. Tenth second floor. Terrace. Later to the Garden, between the Institutes of Experimental Medicine and Anatomical Institute. In 1984, Plaza del Rectorado. Northwest end. Old Court of Honor.
Location: Open square of the Rectorate.

Title: Monument to the fallen of the generation of 28. Author: Ernest Maragall. Year: 1978
Description: Made in memory of the fallen of the generation of 28, a Venezuelan group of university students who starred in the Caracas carnival of 1928. Movement of academic and student character that led to a confrontation with the regime of Juan Vicente Gómez.
Location: Nobody's land.

Title: Amphion. Author: Henri Laurens. Year: 1953
Description: It was chosen for its poetic content and the dynamics of its forms, it was a synthesis of Music and Architecture and according to the legend of the myth of Amphion - myth of ancient Greece.
Location: Covered Plaza.

Title: Motherhood Author: Baltazar Lobo. Year: 1954
Description: The "Maternity" is a sculpture - a poem in which bronze acquires a transcendent meaning. Raising itself to the sky on its hexagonal base, the suggestive forms of the mother in play with the child open themselves joyfully to the air space in a deeply lyrical vital gesture. Described in an inclined oval, the composition distributes mass and empties, in such a way that the light makes highlight the modulations of the matter when penetrating through the holes.
