MFA Boston Names Three New Curatorial Appointments
The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston announced three new curatorial appointments today. Akili Tommasino will join the museum as associate curator of modern and contemporary art; he will begin there in October. Anne E. Havinga has been named the chair of the museum’s photography department, and Christine Kondoleon is now the chair of the MFA’s ancient Greek and Roman art department.
Tommasino comes from the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where he was previously a curatorial assistant. His position at the MFA is a new one, and he will be reporting to Reto Thuring, the contemporary art department’s new chair, who is set to start in September.
Havinga, who has worked at the MFA for almost three decades in various positions, was most recently the photography department’s senior curator, and has curated for the museum such exhibitions as “Alfred Stieglitz and Modern America” and “Silver, Salt, and Sunlight: Early Photography in Britain and France.”
Kondoleon has been at the museum for 17 years, and was most recently the Greek and Roman art department’s senior curator. Last year, she oversaw a reinstallation of the MFA’s 250-object “Daily Life in Ancient Greece” gallery.
