Over the Garden Wall Fanart and Thoughts | Fanarts; Real art?

in #art7 years ago

 “If dreams can’t come true then why not pretend?” ~ Greg of Over the Garden Wall

 This is one of my personal favorite watercolor pieces that I made. It is a fanart of simply_kenna, a Youtuber, and the cartoon Over The Garden Wall. I made this piece for last year’s Halloween. I made this piece with watercolor and colored pencils for the details.

 I chose Over the Garden Wall because it is one of my favorite “autumnal” or “creepy” cartoons and I love the poetry and the animation style as well. I really do recommend this to those who are into artsy and deep animated shows.

 I already made a watercolor fanart for this particular cartoon two year ago, and here is the picture;

 I both used Wirt as my character because he is my favorite. Yes, I said HE. Wirt is a male character who is somehow like me; over thinker, pessimist, poetic, and over dramatic…I AM NOT PROUD OF MYSELF BUT THIS IS WHO I AM. I love to paint him in female form because I just feel more connected to the piece in that way.

 Here’s a photo of Wirt

 I used Kenna’s take on Wirt’s cosplay because I love what she did, she made it feminine and more mysterious and I just love her aesthetics in general.

 But, to be honest, the highlight of my whole Over the Garden Wall experience is when Kenna acknowledged my fanart on Instagram… KYAAAAAAAAAAA :3

 Are fanarts real art?

  This question has been boggling my mind for a lot of time recently. As the number of artists who draw fanarts grow, they are more and more denounced by the art community.

 I think that is wrong. I think fanart is still a legitimate form of art. Artists still use their imagination and creativity with each piece and who are we to deny them credits to their effort and time into producing such amazing fanarts?

 I do believe that artists must still be able to create a piece from scratch and just their own imagination but I don’t think that it is enough to discredit fanart artists.

 For me, it is better for us all artists and art appreciators to build each other up, to support one another rather than invalidate those who are not into the high brow.

 This is just my opinion and I am very willing to read yours. Thank you for taking the time on reading my post.

 Have a nice day!
