Mirror,mirror by Lelana Villa
This was the piece that began my love for abstract art. It's one of the pieces I recently sold, and it happened by accident.
Being left handed I never thought painting was an avenue I would never try, due to the fact that when you draw and are left handed you must have the ability to stop working when you begin to see your making your subject a darker race. Some many times I have turn someone white into an ethnicity much darker with just the sweep of my hand and the lead of a pencil.
So when a friend brought a couple canvases over to finish a project and I tripped over a paint can and spilled paint all over the extra blank canvas, we just set it aside.
It was after she left that it felt as if the canvas was calling me. Daring me to add more color to it. So I did, very much in a trance, so mechanically like I knew exactly what I wanted it to look like, but without a thought in my mind.
When I was done I set it aside and went to bed. It wasn't until the morning did.my fiance ask me who had painted the canvas in the living room. I told him I guess I had, and he began to describe all the things he saw within the painting, so much that the next few people who came over were urged by him to look at it, and each time each person saw something unique.
This is were I decided to name it mirror mirror, as it was like a mirror to the subconsious of the viewer reflecting back at them.
As always I welcome and critques and opinions on my work. Thank you
