Ecuador welcomes the new year with scary masks

The residents of the town of Pillaru in Ecuador celebrate the New Year in a unique way by dancing in the streets, masked with fearsome faces.

Some participants spend a lot of money persuading them to have the worst possible appearance, and the tradition of this celebration goes back a century.
