CHARCOAL DRAWING - JARED LETO
Hello my friends!
Jared Leto
Jared Leto is an American actor and singer, he also directs his productions under the name of Bartholomew Cubbins.
Is a vocalist and composer in the alternative rock band 30 Seconds to mars, which is my favorite since childhood.
He has participated in different movies such as:
- Requiem for a Dream
- Dallas Buyers Club
- Panic room
- Chapter 27
- Fight club
- and Suicide Squad as the Joker.
I will show you step by step how i made this illustration, but first the tools:!
- Mechanical Pencil.
- HB Leads.
- Charcoal Pencils Medium, soft.
- Graphite Powder.
- Brush.
- Diffuser.
- Moldable Eraser.
- A4 Opaline 300G.
The Process:
First, i made the sketch, i made a template similar to how is the work in the world of tattoos, this allowed me to have a guide to every detail, know where the dark and the separation of shadows.
then i drew the lenses, with the charcoal pencil, and the HB pencil made the reflections, i also added light with the moldable eraser.
In this step, i illustrated the nose making a base tone with the HB pencil.
While advancing in the drawing, i used a pen without ink to mark the hair and some areas where i did not want the graphite to enter. This is because, using the light reflected in the sunglasses as reference, i can notice light hair that receives light in dark areas.
I used the graphite powder to make the shadows of the face, with the help of the brush working in circles. i used 2 different powders, the pencil and the charcoal. For the shadows of the face use the pencil because it gives more brightness and is less dark and gives that effect of degraded shadow when the sun hits directly on the face.
Can you see how the lines are reflected where the graphite does not penetrate? that is the effect i was looking for and that i used in almost all the illustration. In the same way, i was making the beard, shading correctly with the charcoal and reflecting the light with the moldable eraser and the invisible lines.
I made some strokes of the hair playing also with the light, using invisible lines makes the work much easier, you do not have to make light hair, just shade over it.
I shaded my hair towards the end, and reflected the light with the moldable eraser.
Then i began to do the hair in the area where the light does not hit, however, some loose hair reciven light.
Making long strokes with the charcoal pencil, from the root to the end so that the direction of the hair is seen, without softening a lot with the brush so that these lines do not get lost.
almost at the end of the illustration, i did the same process, i marked invisible lines and i shaded the lint of the jacket.
Thank you for visiting and i hope to share with you soon another illustration!
Until the next Time!!
So beautiful Kenny. The way you made the glasses is amazing. Really impressive. I wish it could get a big love. 😍

Great drawing, but unfortunately I wasn't able to find a Creative Commons lisense in your post. Please always add one, when you use the #creativecommons tag. Thanks!
i forgot again!... Psshhh
Wow look at that fur! And i agree with slightest mistake can change a persons face in the art. I find humans hard to draw, thats why often i draw animals. But i am working on it.
Youre awesome!! :)
hiya !! Yes, although i draw animals rarely, i have problems with the fur, i prefer other textures. But your animal art is AMAZING! I love them a lot! xD
Wow thanks but I think I need to level up! Have you seen the awesome artists on insta? T.T i aspire to be like them.
More practice!
But you did it so well! I have problems drawing hair cause theyre not fine enough and smooth.
