Metamorphosis /// Original art for the surreal art contest
This is my first entry for the surreal art contest held by @sethlinson.
I call it Metamorphosis

I began with this portrait, i didn't quite have a plan when i started so i was just freestyling, this isn't really based on anyone!
Once i was done I let my imagination run wild and played around a little adding textures and patterns as I went. I ended up with this butterfly woman who i think qualifies as surreal :

This is, somehow, one of the most unsettling things I’ve ever seen.
I’m not exaggerating.
I keep scrolling back up to look at it, even though it’s so unsettling that I get nervous and on edge just glancing at it.
This is somehow, both, at the nadir is my own personal uncanny valley, and, at the pinnacle of some kind of weird schadenfreude that, wow, hey, I am so insanely happy that this...human-like-creature has to suffer through life being that way, instead of me.
I don’t experience visceral emotions from visual art.
Except right now.
Oh. My. I looked at it again.

I actually love creepy and unsettling art so I do take it as a compliment :) Me and my boyfriend used to run an artisinal boutique and I had some sculptures for sale, one was a cat with a womans face, a girl came in one day and was browsing and she kept picking it up and looking disgusted and putting it down again. She ended up buying it and she told us she found it so disturbing that she had to have it! Art is supposed to provoke a reaction so wether good or bad I am happy to have made someone feel something!
I remember that, she was disgusted by it, but she needed to have it....
cool entry !! nice portrait the rest of it is what makes it surreal. The expression goes with the surreal feel because its kind of bland and the surroundings are not ! all the best

I literally was writing a poem last night about metamorphosis; how cool is this! You are very talented! I love the creativity I have seen on this platform. Truly amazing what you can find across the board! Enjoy your day!

Thanks kerlund, I am trying to explore bright colours more lately as som of my past work looks kind of bland to me, bright colours really make it more fun!

Thank you isaria, my initial idea was to straight up do some kind of alien for the contest actually, though I suppose she could be from an alien planet?

This is like a creature from some forgotten chapter of Greek Myth.
Lost chapters of the Odyssey - Odysseus wanders through the butterfly patch.
It kind of does but modernized, i wish i had more time to write maybe I'd make an accompanying story :)

Thanks i prefer to teach rather than flag if possible, maybe I'll get through to some of these spammers, sometimes i troll them a bit but they don't seem to notice :p
