This Former Architect Creates Magical Realism In Every Painting
Finally something good coming out of Canada. I'm JUST TEASING folks, lol. I love Canada. This painter hails from up North in Toronto and he specializes in optical illusions. His name is Rob Gonsalves.
He started painting at a very young age and by the time he was 12 yrs old he was a skilled painter. Growing up he spent much of his time daydreaming and his imagination was always working.
After he went to college he became an architect and worked in that career for 6 years but he found that he couldn't put his imagination to use so he went back to painting. Lucky for us.
His work caught on immediately once people saw his style and he's been tearing it up ever since.
He likes to take the natural world and surroundings and mix it with a magical, imaginary one. Like this one:
Or, he uses two "normal" images and create an illusion that makes you look twice and each time you come back you'll see it in a different way!
This is one of my favorites called Ladies Of The Lake:
Here's a classic mind-bender in the likes of Salvador Dali:
Rob starts his paintings as rough sketches as he works on them, developing the concept he wants and this takes many weeks. About 60% of his time on a painting is in this stage of building the elements in.
When he has everything in place then he moves to the canvas and the actual painting takes 3 or 4 weeks.
He loves to combine nature with the human built environment.
He also loves to bend people's minds a little!
This is another favorite, it's kind of eerie though:
Here's another. Run girl run! lol.
Another fascinating scene:
Most artists have a site where you can go and purchase prints and so forth but I think he just uses his facebook page as his official site and to see more of his works you can just do an online search with his name.
I hope he's teaching other painters because I think he's amazing and can really influence the art world to create fascinating work. Kudos sir Gonsalves!
Oh! Here's one more that I just found. I can study these all day!
Thanks for stopping by folks, God bless you all!

PS- Hey check this out guys. We all know how our oceans are being polluted with plastic and one of the culprits is the plastic six pack rings that hold six packs together.
They kill as many as 1 million sea birds and mammals every year when they get entangled in them.
Well, a company called E6PR has created an edible, bio-degradable six pack ring made mostly from barley and wheat which will dissolve quickly in the ocean and can even be eaten by the animals.
It's quite an invention and I hope the major producers all move to this type of holder. Here's what it looks like:
And here's an article about it if you want to read more. It's a small step but an important one and they proved that we can make a difference.
PPS- If y'all have some Bitcoin you can earn about 12% each month IN BITCOIN by using this wallet. It's quite extraordinary. You can check them out here

I agree sir enginewitty. I found out after I published the post that he is no longer with us. He committed suicide in 2017. What a shame because he was doing better and better work.
Another talented artist. Very unique art.
Edible six-pack ring. No thanks, you can have my share.

Surreal! A great talent and mind to come up with these magical paintings.
Unfortunately he passed.
Yes I agree. Right after I sent the post I read that he'd committed suicide. What a shame.

This man’s brain is partly inhabited by alien!!
Haha! Howdy sir kaminchan, I take that as a positive review!
It's just fantastic the way this guy twists the perspective the human eye uses to grasp the depth of an image. Also, the way this man blends natural elements with human-made scenarios is just gorgeous.
I'll dig a little bit further in these guy artwork, thanks for sharing Mr Janton.
I agree sir joelsegovia. Right after I submitted my post I found out that he is no longer with us because he committed suicide in 2017 so that is very sad. He was doing more and more interesting work.
So sad to know that such a talented man is no longer with us... It really is a pity, his artwork was sublime
I agree sir joelsegovia, he was getting better and better. Alot of artists seem to have emotional and mental problems.
Madmen and geniuses are very similar people :)
Haha..yes that seems to be very true throughout the ages sir joelsegovia, good point!
I think of all the stuff I've seen you post that man's pictures are amazing. What a talented person. I bet his artwork cost a fortune though.
Howdy sunlit7! I didn't try to look up any prices but I'm sure they do cost a ton of money now. I mean "now" because I found out after I sent the post that he committed suicide in 2017 so I'm sure that made the prices jump. That's a shame because I think he was doing great and producing more and more interesting work.
Wow, that is sad but you quite commonly hear that artist usually have some sort of depressive issues and their work is an outlet of expression for them.
I agree, it seems like most of them struggle with emotional or mental issues.
