Star Wars, Jedi Porg - Digital Vector Illustration
Always...
Hello and Welcome to my first detailed digital art post of the year. I created this Jedi Porg based on the cute and bizare Porg creatures in the Last Jedi. I went to see the film with my aunt around Christmas. She absolutely fell in love with the furry little things. I decided that I would design a digital Porg for her. I'm going to send her the file so that she can get it printed and framed. I also plan so get this design on my Cloud City 7 profile. There, people can order a T-shirt and be one with the Porg.
This was a Vector illustration. I use Affinity Designer to do my Vector work. I think it's better than Adobe Illustrator as it has amazing lighting and visual FX.
I used a few reference images from Google -
I tried to strike a balance between the toy and the film puppet.
Right, let's take a quick look at the design process using Affinity.
- Pencil
As this was a Vector Illustration, I started out with a pencil sketch. I then created curvers on the original lineart with the mouse. On Adobe illustrator, curves are called paths.
- Vector Tracing
Once all the objects are created, I go ahead and add color and edit the size and shape of the lines.
- Flat Color
This is the painstaking part. It can also be quite relaxing whilst listening to some good music.
Here it's starting to come together. Some might think that he looks better flat.
Once its all filled in, I can add the shadow, glow, and 3D FX. This is the final and most fun faze :) I decided to use one of the stock fonts for the text. I think it looks like the opening yellow text on the star wars films.
- Final
Well, there we have it :) I hope you enjoyed my artwork and the design process. If you have any questions about using Vector graphics programs, feel free to ask me anything!
Thanks very much for stopping by and may the Porg be with you, always...
This things are too cute to be in the film. Cute drawing too.
I know right! I think I'm actually going to enlarge the eyes to add to enhance the cuteness factor :)

I love this! What a cute lil' Jedi. I still haven't seen the movie but man I want to. I love your linework, particularly on the wing/arms. Great work mate!
Much love - Carl
Thanks so much @carlgnash. You should go see the film now! Some fans didn't like it but I think it's pretty cool.

Could describe every new Star Wars movie IMO :) Definitely going to see it, the question is just "when" and "how to get the kids wrangled" :)Surprisingly, I really like the Phantom Edit. It's a fan made edit of Phantom Menace with all Jar Jar and other lame scenes taken out. very cool :)
I also find it very helpful to use multiple references for accuracy and inspiration. Your line art is very clean and crisp, as are your colors. Very nice!
Thanks for the kind words! Well, with Vector programs, you can edit and clean up any bad line art ;)
I agree that the porgs are adorable... but did anyone else realize that they have no other purpose in this movie??? They are literally there just to be cute!!! I mean, at least the Ewoks helped in the battle...
Oh and I’d love to hear your thoughts on my fan theories!!!

Yes, Grey Force is a big theme in the new films. Have you seen the Phantom Edit? Really like it :)
Ah, but are the Porgs going to play an important role in the next film? Hard Porg XD
jajaja congrat is funny
very nice post u always share nice posts keep it up
Thanks mate
i love your post @bijoy123
As per usual, awesome work. Love the detail on what you did. Makes me think that even i might be able to draw something. Actually, no I cant.
Ha! Well you could certainly learn the program.
I'll stick to Photoshop :)
I like your drawing, but I thought this creature was annoying in the movie and I thought they added it just to sell some plush toys.
They blatantly did!
