Super Saiyan Vegeta Dragon Ball Z Fan Art [Process Drawing]
The prince of saiyans, Vegeta, is a fan favorite in the Dragon Ball series. He recently powered up to Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Evolution form (what a mouthful) in the Dragon Ball Super series, but I am old school and I still like drawing the characters from the Dragon Ball Z series. This recent drawing shows him as he was during the Cell Games.
The Wire Frame
This wasn't my first time drawing Vegeta, so I didn't require a very detailed wire frame drawing. I have a pretty decent ability to see things in my mind's eye, so I guess I filled in the details mentally and not in the drawing itself. The pose is nothing extravagant. The simple gesture of the raised fist is enough to portray his attitude.
The Sketch
The sketching process was really easy, especially since his character design isn't very detailed. The torso contains the most lines, and even then it's not too complicated. I was really pleased with the proportions and anatomy right off the bat, so there was very little change from sketch to final drawing.
The Line Art
Drawing on a new layer over my sketch layer was once again, a breeze. There is virtually no difference between the sketch and the line art drawings, except the fact the latter is clean and crisp. I use Clip Studio Paint EX to make my art. I love using the G-Pen for making most of my artwork. I draw with anti-aliased turned off.
The Flat Colors
I could have used colors taken from official art or a screenshot of the show, but I decided to ballpark and use my own colors based on memory. I'm not worried that I got them wrong, but I would rather have this look like a drawing made by me, not just an official piece of artwork. The choice of color and slight variations help make this fan art uniquely mine.
The Finished Illustration
It wouldn't have been proper to draw Vegeta without him powering up as a Super Saiyan. The Flat color version is his standard form, complete with original brown hair like you see when his character is first introduced. The ki energy was pretty fun to draw, again from memory. Likewise I did my best to draw the Cell Games arena as accurate as I could based on memory alone. I didn't use any reference images for this one.
Epic! Love your line work :)
Thanks, that means a lot coming from you. :)
