Presenting a little drawing I had time for during the holidays of st. Rafqa!

She was a Lebanese nun born in 1832.

Her story is so striking and a holy one.

What stood out for me most was the fact that she had an eye surgery for the immense pain on her eyes which she asked the Lord to give her. There were no local remedies that could help so the doctor had to remove her eye. Her eye popped out from the socket. Her left eye shrunk and eventually she was blind on one eye, then the next followed. Her brave words were:

Now it's a big question why God allows suffering. Many may ask why? It's cruel or hard and it may not sound godly to permit it.

The concept is: How could you prove bravery without fear? How could you prove love without suffering? 🥦 Is it not easy to enjoy life?Nobody needs a lesson on hedonism because we are all drawn to "excess" we desire the good too much in excess that it ruins us.

🍭But who can suffer with ease? Who can teach us to suffer with grace? Who can teach us self control, reserve? Sacrifice and duty?

I think that's where the merit goes especially in the generation of ease and comfort. Strength is seldom connected to sacrifice and service and has turned to pride and stomping on others like it's some contest. It doesn't have to be.

Look at these saints who run to sickness and do not fear it. It's impossible to not catch a glimpse of inspiration.

This reminds me so much of the COVID p*andemic and how many do suffer. Maybe we can likewise take it with a smile and carry on. Things will improve.
