Black & White Media Illustrations - Zebras, Lion Cubs, Rhinos and Flamingos!

Lions, Tigers, and Rhinos - OH MY!

Good Afternoon friends :) Hope everyone is having a great day - we are just a day away until that glorious glorious weekend (at least here in the states!)

Today I want to share some black and white scratchboard/pen & ink drawings I did while in college! I really enjoyed this assignment because it focused on black and white media like ink and scratchboard along with various black and white techniques, like hatching and stippling. I really enjoyed the scratchboard images the most - I hadn't really ever done scratchboard work like this before at this point of my artistic path and it just clicked with me. For some, the subtractive action of removing away material was confusing, but for me, it honestly felt easier than adding color.

I chose a few animals and just went to town - we had to complete a series of 4 - so I chose the Rhino, Flamingo, Lion Cub and Zebra! The Lion cub and Zebra were done on 8x10 scratchboard and the flamingo and rhino were done with pen and ink and ink washes.

I hope you guys liked seeing some of my older work :) I wish I had cooler technology back then so I could have taken process shots, but - I didn't :(

I've got some new paintings I am working on and can't wait to share with you guys - I am really excited about them! So I guess I will keep this short and sweet - Love you all - thank you as always for your amazing support!

I also love to work with black and white medias... your abstract art are really pretty :)

Thank you so much! They arent abstracts though, that style is more like Jackson Pollock. Think abstract when you see painting of just shapes and color, cause that is typically what they are trying to study. These fall more under realism :) the flamingo was probably the most stylized, it really was drawn a little loose..

Ugh I missed this one! How have you been?

How did I miss your reply?! I'm sorry!! I'm good - just insanely busy, but things are slowing down a bit so I am hoping to be back on here more! Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to keeping up with what you are doing again too! :)
