Life as an Artist #3: Beginner's Diorama
Good day Steemians, today I'm going to share with you my experience in doing my first every diorama, yes, a diorama, for all I know, diorama is somehow a miniature replica of a scene or a place, sometimes you get the initiative to create your own world out of it, and that's why I'm really excited when my friend @cherrydexplorer told me that she needs help in doing a diorama for her friend @littlemissanna's daughter Kylie, who is in pre-kinder grade.
At that time, I don't know what to do, because It's my first time I've been asked to do a diorama, but my inner child is so excited and so eager to do it so I answer "yes, I'll do it" then I research how to do one, or how does it look like, what should it be made of, the plan and execution. so I came up with my own design and idea,
The guidelines being, there should be the body of water like Sea, River, Waterfalls, I just added the Lake, somehow I think they forgot about it haha, and also the body of land, which is the Mountain, Volcano, and Hill so with all that requirements being met, I think anything should do,
So I started my preparations, I tried my best to look for things I already have so then I won't be buying it in the store, I've got my paintbrush, a glue gun, some paints, and I've gathered some rocks along the way haha
Let's start this over with, planning is definitely important in everything we do, so I make sure that my imagination is not playing tricks on me, so I drew it first before starting anything so that I will not get lost in my creation hahaha,
so I placed my creation where I think it fits like I'm creating an actual place in my own planet
After I lay down the plan, I start placing crumpled paper using the glue gun, to be my foundation so I won't use too much clay in forming my mountain cause you know mountain should be high enough to be called a mountain,
and using Elmer's glue, I start to form what should it look like, the mountain, volcano, and hill,
Thanks to Elmer my bro, I finished forming my high grounds,
And then after that, I place the rocks I picked up on the roadside, to see where should it be placed for added feel to it,
Now for the tricky part, I now start forming the clay form of my mountain's structure, using Jovi Terracotta,
First Elmer, now its Jovi, good thing I have these dependable friends
It's kinda hard to play with Jovi, he tends to do what forms he like, he's a bit stubborn when it comes to teamwork,
but I have to insist on what I want from him,
I really love artworks where I am in charge of the design because nobody can tell me what it should look like or what should I do, hahaha but I am willing to take suggestion or criticism,
After the foundation is done, I painted it, so it may look like soil, and also I painted the body of water,
It's all been set and done!!! Hooray!! I have to admit, I was excited doing this project I was actually grinning like an idiot while doing this hahaha
Now, for the tree, I used sawdust, since it was kinda scaled large the tree actually looked more like a bunch of bushes on top of the mountains, nobody can complain
I just experimented with it, what would it look like if I mixed it with paint, and as a result, it turns out well,
So using again my partner Elmer, I glued all the sawdust tree in place, to give my diorama it's depth and give a nature's touch to it,
isn't it amazing, my joy of doing this artwork is immeasurable, I could jump for joy, but I'm actually doing this in the middle of the night so, the kids are all sleeping so, I have to quiet down while doing this diorama project hihihi
After I finished with the tree effect hehe, I can't do anything but to let it dry first so the sawdust won't come off when I start doing additional touches to it, so It's time for a nap.
As I close my eyes, it was as if the night is too short that time, and the sun come running, waking me up already, so It's time for the finale, putting on the water, this is just an experiment on what I watched on youtube, on making a low-cost water effect on a diorama because I watched this video, and I know that material will cost a lot so I tried to look for other means of making this effect,
for the last time, I put my trust on my friend Elmer, this time I put some blue paint on him so that it will dry with a touch of color blue on him, by the way, I bought an Elmer's Glue that says, "dries clear" so when it dries out, I can have this clear effect on it,
Judgment time, as Kylie look closely to her project, as if she's inspecting it thoroughly, my nervous because the glue ain't dry yet, I just finished it when she woke up, pleasee don't touch it yet hahaha
but then I know she's happy with it, what a relief, it's not rejected by her standard hahaha
look at the joy on her face, wonderful smile,
This is also her trying her best to smile hahaha
So that's how my day with this little kiddo end, such a wonderful day it is, I get the chance to make my first diorama, and I get to see this kid's smiling face,
This is my first diorama, and I'm quite pleased with the outcome, at least I didn't ruin the project entrusted to me, haha
I'm thankful for this opportunity that gave me the chance to experience making something new to me, I have a bit of trouble deciding on things along the way, good thing I researched a lot before even doing anything, luckily all those efforts didn't go to waste.
