Catch them while young

No kind of teaching catches children's attention like pictures: drawings, sketching, caricature. This is something I discovered few years ago while still a teacher in a private nursery school.

Nearly all kids if not all intoto are turned up immediately you start something else from writing on the writing board; silence overwhelms while they still try to decipher what it is you are drawing.

Draw a car; some will start suggesting its a HOUSE, a COW etc. Sounds funny; but at last the image comes up entirely and they are awestruck at what they see; and even without instruction, all hands on.

You can confirm the pupil's excitement understanding what I'd drawn. Till today they can still tell all what they were taught that day as pertaining to the drawing...
