sashimi seppuku acrylic painting
Ever wondered how they got the roe out of the most honorable of flying fish for that delicious sashimi or sushi you love? well the mystery is over and here is a few process paintings showing how the bushido code plays a major role in these delicious dishes.
First I started with an outline, after a little bit of sketching, I get the basic idea out and after making sure I got the composition all squared away, I lay down some dark line work to make life a little easier when it comes time to add in my colors.
Then I start putting in my colors, I wanted to use a soft pink in the background so the red and gold in the armor lay nicely against it, but also so the blue in the fish really pops off. It took me a little bit of time to get all the weaves in fabric of the armor around the "shoulder" and "thighs" of the fish to look the way I wanted, the blending took even more time, I had to use a variety of different brushes in the armor to get it looking just right.
And here is the final product. The black was very challenging to add into all of those tight corners in the armor and the blending in the shading was a very slow process to, it's very easy to let that color get away from you, but I think it turned out pretty good. Getting a nice white circle around each roe egg was another time consuming part of this painting, but it felt essential to show a sack around the eggs without making it look to heavy.
I really liked doing this piece, it had a lot of little pieces to it that made it a slow moving process, but sometimes you gotta take a little time to get the results you like. If you like this piece shoot me an upvote and follow for more to come. I have prints for sale on my etsy shop as well ( etsy.com/shop/honeycombwinnie ).
