Artefact V

in #art7 years ago (edited)

When I started this piece in 2001 I wasn't quite sure about the final composition. I just knew I wanted this corridor and the broken spheres, elements which I already used earlier in several small paintings. I was confident I'd come up with an idea while I'd be working on it. But it wasn't that easy. I got stuck after months of work and it took me another 2 years to figure out how to finish it: It was all about the central tower.

The size/details ratio of this painting is quite insane, something I'll probably never do again because it's so extremely time-consuming.

Well I'm super grateful you found it in yourself to finish it, it's often too easy to let paintings stew and "rot" until the idea is just... bleh..
but this.. this is a whole new world!

Mr. Gric, do you teach painting at all?

Watch his blog really closely... I am picking up all sorts of good insight! Especially on those posts showing stages of progression. Very exciting stuff.

Thank you @claritypavilion! I'm not so much into teaching any more....

I'm continually fascinated by your work, the realistic decay and disrepair of these abstract and surreal subjects is incredible. Do you ever do art for any sci-fi or fantasy games, movies, books, etc?

I did quite a few book covers and one concept design for film in 2010, but nothing in games.

I think your art would be really cool on Magic: The Gathering cards!

Never thought about cards! :-)

I really like your art, it has really a post-apocaliptic feel. Lots of detail and serious work into it...

Thank you @erre!

beautiful pics!

Thank you!

Incredible Peter. I'm new to following your work, so forgive me if you mentioned it already, but do you do concept/background work for film, movies, or games at all? Or do you just create these as stand-alone art series.

I worked only once a couple of months on concept design for film. It was Guillermo del Toro's "At the Mountains of Madness" which unfortunately didn't make it beyond the pre-production.

Well you do really amazing work.

Oh don look at me like thaaa :d

Myyy that is amazing! :o
I thought it was some computer graphic until I saw the paintbrush.

Are you in museums yet? If not the art scene really needs to up it's game.

One of my painting has been purchased many years ago by the Austrian State Gallery in Belvedere, but it's not at display.

Didn't know that.

It's in Oberes Belvedere. I was still student at the academy when they bought it. It's this piece: http://gric.at/gallery/bild021.htm

Excellent!

That is just wow. Steemit artists going down in history already:)

Yeah, forever imprinted in the blockchain! :-)
