¿ What do I need to be a Barber?

¿ I could be Barber?

My answer to this question is, obviously, IF anyone who proposes it could be a barber, the first thing is to start by professionally preparing yourself in a specialized center, however, as long as you can go further in all the trades, have the disposition and the desire to deepen in this art, to then acquire not only the theory but also the technique that is achieved with much practice.
In occasion, we confuse success with popularity and, nevertheless, in silence it is how best to work the triumph. Actually, it is not at all complex to work successfully when you have clear concepts. The key is in these 5 simple tips that you can put into practice from now on:

• Be ready to start at your workplace always with some advance.
• Be courteous always have a good disposition, and everyone will please.
• Be tidy, clean, dress well and stay free of bad body odors and with fresh breath.
• Be precise and careful in every process and everyone will remember the experience.
• Your work is your company, give it importance and your clients will trust you.
Rules that, apparently, we all know but that not all professionals strictly apply. If you want to be a barber, start at the beginning, if you think you already are, do not omit the rules of the good professional.

Kit of basic tools to undertake the art or job of the barbershop.

Razor to shave.

Source of my authorship

A razor to shave or barbera made of hardened steel and handle of wood, steel or plastic (these materials are the most used), which serves to shave the beard and outline the outline of the cut. Currently, it is used with disposable sheets, for greater protection and hygiene towards the customer. The knife is held at an angle of about 30 degrees and slides perpendicular to the edge to avoid cutting the client. A cut requires that the knife slide parallel to the edge. If the cut is not parallel, you run the risk that in the next pass cuts to the client. In addition, a razor to shave is often used in conjunction with a brush and shaving cream or gel, as this offers greater protection and lubrication improving the sliding of the razor to shave. A council that I give them is to practice first with a balloon. I full air, I put cream or shaving gel and pass the razor until they are perfecting the technique, so they run less risk when used with a person.

Scissors.

The Scissors is the fundamental tool of the barber, since with it the shape and texture of the hair is made. Regarding the conservation of scissors here are some tips:

• Keep the scissors always inside a case, so if you suffer any fall do not deform or suffer any damage.
• A good way to improve the operation of the scissors is to pour a few drops of oil every two or three days.
• We must always grab the scissors by the handle, this way we avoid that the sweat deteriorates the leaves and avoids cutting you.
• Use a brush to clean the scissors.
• Never cut paper or any material other than hair to avoid dulling the cut of the scissors.
• Use the scissors when cutting.

Cutting Scissors.

Most haircuts are done with this type of scissors. These scissors are made for both right-handed and left-handed people, have two cutting blades, with holes for the index and thumb fingers on one end, and two blades that meet when the cut is made. Cutting styles vary; most are 4.5 to 6.5 inches (11.40 to 16.5 cm) long. The size and shape are selected for the comfort of the barber, some scissors have a curved handle that allows a more natural hand position.

Thinning Scissors.

Source

The thinning scissors are also known as texturing or polishing. His hand is similar to any other scissors, with holes for the thumb and index finger. These scissors are made for both left-handed and right-handed barbers. However, the upper part of the scissors varies greatly. Instead of two "cut" blades, the upper blade contains widely spaced teeth that remove only some of the hair with each cut, to remove volume without changing your cutting style. These scissors are used for sections of hair that tend to have a lot of volume in proportion to the rest of the head, such as the sides and the back. This scissor has a straight edge blade and another jagged edge blade. The serrated blade has teeth spaced at different intervals, and this scissor is held in the same way as the cutting scissors. The teeth spaced at different intervals are:

• The 8-tooth thinning scissors have a 1/8 inch tooth spacing between them.
• The 16-tooth thinning scissors have a 1/6 inch tooth spacing between them.
• The 32-tooth thinning scissors have a 1/32 inch tooth space between them.

Cutting machines.

First Cutting Machine.

Source

This instrument is of Serbian origin and was created by a country man named "Nikola Bizumic" born in 1823, who when employed as a barber, created a tool called a machine for cutting hair, in the mid-nineteenth century. In the beginning it was manual, so imagine if the barber of that time did not have the ability to cut the hair, to many piercings in the cut. Similary to a scissors, it worked by hand, unlike current electric machines. With the industrial revolution is added an electric motor and many more improvements to this day. Probably one of the times where it was used the most was in World War II, since the use of very short hair type flat tap was mandatory. Over time, the electric hair cutting machines gradually replaced the manuela machines. Today there are only a few specimens worldwide.

Electric cutting machine.

At the beginning of the year 1831 Mathew Andi, started in the basement of his house, the first operating model of an electric hair clipper. These over time were replacing the manual machines. Nowadays electric machines are widely used by barbers worldwide. It should be noted that in the process of evolution, they placed a lever on one side thus giving movement to the upper blade, thus giving a better finish to the cut. There was also the manufacture of guide combs, which are placed on the upper blade and are mostly made of very durable and durable plastic. These combs are equivalent to 3 mm or 1/8 of an inch, the most used numbers are:

• At 0 (zero) it would be to cut the hair without the guide comb, that is to say, to shave (the hair is a little longer than when it is shaved with a razor)
• At 1 (one) would be to leave 3mm or 1/8 inch of hair length.
• At 2 (two) would be to leave 6mm or 1/4 inch or hair length.
• At 3 (three) would be to leave 9-10mm or 3/8 inch or hair lenght.
• At 4 (four) would be to leave 13mm or 1/2 inch or hair lenght.
• At 5 (five) would be to leave 16mm or 5/8 inch or hair lenght.
• At 6 (six) would be to leave 19mm or 3/4 inch or hair lenght.
• At 7 (seven) would be to leave 22mm or 7/8 inch or hair lenght.
• At 8 (eight) would be to leave 25mm or 1 inch or hair lenght.
These two guide combs came out a few years ago, which are popularly called trap combs, which are:
• At 1/2 (half) would be to leave 1.5mm or 1/16 inch or hair lenght.
• At 1 ½ (one and half) would be to leave 4.5mm or 3/16 inch or hair lenght.

• Gel: used to fix the hair, offers lasting quality during the day and comes in many scents and colors.
• Combing Cream: it is used to give consistency and freshness in the hair giving an aggravating smell.

• Antibacterial Gel: it is used after finishing the haircut or beard, smearing it where the razor was used to avoid any type of bacteria, in the same way it offers a hydration and refreshing of the skin.
• Cool Care: it is a product of the company andis, it is very good because it has 5 in 1, lubricates, cleans, cools the leaves and prevents rust. Lengthening the operation and life of the machine.
