Hello Dear Steemit Friends ! Today I would like to present you Sir Edwin Henry Landseer, the most famous ans successful animal painter of the 19C. Cheap engravings spread a knowledge of his work throughout Europe.

His paintings of wild stretches of Scotland, in which a noble stag becomes the vehicle for a morality lesson appealed to the Victorian taste for the exotic, while his humorous works in which animals are imbued with human psychology had a simple appeal to the most unexacting taste.

Queen Victoria was Landseers great admirer and friend. He painted her portrait several times as well as painting her dogs. Landseer modelled the famous statues of four lions in Trafalgar Square, surrounding Nelson's Column, which were unveiled in 1867.
