I recently had the pleasure of discovering the art of Anthony Christopher (@achristopherart) here on Steemit. His work is a fine balance of macabre and light humor, bizarre and mundane. It's a unique blend sure to captivate any passerby.
Seeing his sketches and illustrations awoke my primal urge to draw! So I started working on this mushroom basket still life...
Past the halfway mark now.
A couple steps from earlier in the process
The second WIP is an origami mushroom.
It seemed like it would be straightforward enough at the get go. Wrong! I had to set this one on the back burner for a minute to give myself time to recuperate.
It'll be completed soon enough though. The finished origami mushroom will then be saved in the box with all the other models I've made until the big #origami-journey diorama at the end.
We see a fine example of the mushroom model folded properly below.

Do you enjoy eating mushrooms?
What is your favorite kind of mushroom to eat?
Gosh, this origami artwork is a true piece of art! You are getting really good at it! Can you make a spiral? I love spirals :)
Also, you are pretty good with pastels, I should try it too
Thank you, I appreciate that coming from another origami artist. A spiral, eh? I'll make one, you got it it.
Crayons and pastels are fun to work with, though they can be über messy if their little crumbs are not attended. You've got painting skillz, I'd like to see what you could do with other media.
Took a look at @achristopherart his work, I can see why you felt inspired! Those crayon skills are tight, I somehow don't like the feel of crayons, so big ups to that one. And those origami shrooms, pfff, higher levels right there! 💃
While I do like crayons, I still feel like ink is my #1 favorite. Ink is fast, bold and permanent, so we have to be deliberate with it! Crayons are more gentle and forgiving (like a comfortable sweatshirt).
Anthony Christopher's work is right up my alley, nice and inky. So glad I could bridge you to new artwork! His supernova mind time-lapse on d-tube was wicked awesome.
Wow, who knew you could make an origamishroom. So way cool. I look very forward to your diorhama and 'Island of the Misfit's' you were discussing with @winstonalden. That has so much of a potential for a great art project and epic post. Close ups, close ups...
As for eating mushrooms, I usually stick to the standard, Jr. Portabello's, unless I'm with someone who really knows their stuff. I value my liver and all, since I'm clueless about them in general. Have a nice day today.
I am discovering there is an entire Universe of origami the further on this journey I travel. I'm looking forward to the end project too, it's been decades since I've made a diorama! I'll get some good shots on the next stop, definitely.
I'm with you, you won't catch me eating any wild fungi out on my own. If I were out with a guide, someone like our venerable @haphazard-hstead, I'd feel much less paranoia about wild dining.
Thanks for stopping by! Every day is nice here, even the bad days. ☺
Whoa homie.... crayons!!! Just seeing the first pic, i never thought it was crayon hahaha... origami, crayons, you just a master artist over here, keep pulling out new tricks i haven't seen you do yet and kill it!!!! Those little baby shrooms are super cool!!
'Preciate you! Going back to the basics here. Crayons were fun 20 years ago and they're fun still today. While I've been working on this one, I've been thinking about how to successfully mix crayon with liquid acrylic. Caution: wild colors ahead!
And the origami shrooms...they are extra cute, they'll be a perfect addition to the diorama :D
Saying I enjoy eating mushrooms is an understatement!
Love the drawing! I've always been bad with crayons so I'm always amazed at people's creations with them. Yours reminded me of the time I went mushroom picking with a basket exactly like that.
I'm REALLY looking forward to your origami mushrooms. It looks MAD difficult. But so pretty!
I've had a LOT of time with crayons, drawing this was like meeting an old friend I hadn't seen in a long time. The origami version is going to take some practice, for sure.
Mushrooms are (usually) delicious! I bet picking them in the wild was a memorable experience, that's something I have yet to do.
Thank you for commenting @manouche! How is Seoul treating you?
Oh you have to go mushroom picking! It's the most fun. Is there a story behind the (usually) delicious? I sense it.
Seoul is cold and I've been redoing my new apartment so I'm covered in paint and dust 90% of the time and entirely exhausted the other 10%. Going to write about it as soon as I get my wifi connection on Monday!
I've met some mushrooms that taste too strong for my liking. I got a mixed mushroom blend from the grocery store once that had a funky fungus in it I didn't really enjoy.
I like tasting new things, like this chocolate reishi kombucha. It was unusual at first, but it tasted better with each sip, and by the end I decided I liked it.
Sounds like you have a lot of work to do, exciting work! Hopefully the SBD I sent you will help you do something great. Take care, I'll keep a lookout for your next update. ☺
Mushrooms are fascinating to me because they are in a category of their own, nothing else quite like fungus. As much as I love using liquid media, going back to dry media is enjoyable too.
I saw your recent tree sketch. When we push ourselves outside of our comfort zones we learn and grow the most. Thanks for stopping by!
Oh that's a good idea!!! Fairy rings are not a super common sight here since the climate is a bit dry, yet I have seen them and they are amazing. When I lived Down East (rains a lot out there) they'd pop up all over the place. I've even seen two rings that 'overlap' to make a sort of Venn diagram shape.
Those origami shrooms are cool! I painted a mushroom Mandala once, I should post it soon :)

Nice creativity
I pray you complete what you have started
Thank you for your kind words. I will complete these for sure! I've come too far to give up.
Prayers do come true, @fidelmboro:
Mushroom Basket Still Life - WIP No More
Hahah love it! My favorite is stuffed mushrooms with cheese!
Oh, those are delicious! It's been a while since I've had a good stuffed mushroom.
Thanks for stopping by! :D

Ah, I'm just seeing the SBD you sent me! How so kind. Thank you so much!!
You're very welcome. Steemit has been good to me, I like to give back.
I love mushrooms and your mushrooms are so lovely :D both the origami and the colour pencil ones are so lovely and creative and really cool :D

The crayon drawing is so pretty! Love the origami mushrooms, a few more and you could make a faerie ring XD
