10 Visionary Artists You've Probably Never Heard Of Part 1

As a member of the Visionary community, I have had the great pleasure of witnessing the growth and development of some of the most profound talents of this new Renaissance. While commercial art and the deconstructionist, over-produced garbage that is pumped out of the University system continues to degenerate, there are rising stars that have yet to penetrate the consciousness at large. Over the next few days I will bring some of my most favorite Visionary Artists to Steemit so... stay tuned:)

Andy Thomas

https://andythomas.com.au/

About

Over the last two decades Andy Thomas has developed an iconic visual language that is uniquely his own. Using a combination of digital technology and water colours, Thomas’ work is a symbolic representation of nature’s collision with technology. Inspired by the beauty of nature and extensive travel to some of the world’s most ancient rainforests, Thomas fuses together images of flora and fauna into evolved abstract forms. Intricately layered compositions of plants and animals make a strong statement of technology’s impact on planet earth and how advancements in society are affecting the natural systems of life. In recent years Thomas has begun to experiment with digital audio software, initiating a new branch of his practice. This new series of animated video installations visually represent the voices of nature and create an eerie environment of sound and light. Through this new path of artistic investigation Thomas once again finds a way to create works in which nature and technology combine. - https://andythomas.com.au/pages/about-us

Hannah Yata

https://hannahyata.com/

About

Hannah Faith Yata is half Japanese and was born and raised in a small town in Georgia. She grew up with a deep love of nature and animals passed down by the beautiful surroundings in the country and her mother.

As a young adult, she studied feminism, psychology, and art in college. Graduating with a BFA in painting from the University of Georgia in 2012 where she thereafter moved to New York to be an artist. In 2015, she was commissioned to do several works of art for musician B.o.B where she quit her full-time job to focus solely on her own painting. Now married to fellow artist, Jean Pierre Arboleda, the two painters work passionately to call attention to industry, its effects on our psyche and the living world around us.

In her paintings, Yata seeks to interweave the parallels of the unconscious with the struggle of the natural environment and how it relates to views regarding the body of the woman and that of nature. Her use of masks express different types of emotion and characters while incorporating her fascination with culture and tribalism. Body paint and designs play with a romantic idea of becoming more in touch with the earth and the life forces that dwell within, while also celebrating the feeling of energy and wildness. The surreal and psychedelic landscapes of her work erupt with tension and beauty, the grotesque and the wild to form exhilarating and mind altering dreamscapes. -https://hannahyata.com/bio

About

Titan Droid (formerly Salvia Droid) is a 2D artist and 3D VR artist from Southern California. He is a leading creator of pure psychedelic artwork and is arguably the best of the Visionary Artists in his ability to accurately record, capture and translate his ventures into the psychedelic space. Where most artists rely on a larger movement to dictate the unfoldment of their style, Titan Droid goes inward and painstakingly maps the visionary space. His influences are direct contact with the strange and unpredictable realms and his technique is molded primarily by DMT and Salvia Divinorum. At just 29 years old he is a young creator with a massive amount of upward mobility as the dimensions he transcribes are seemingly endless.

Seth McMahon

http://www.sethmcmahon.dreamhosters.com/

About

I have been creating art as long as I could hold a pencil. It is something that occurs naturally in me, the same way that birds fly and fish swim. As a young boy with an over active imagination, art was the best way that I could share myself with others. It made my world not seem so lonely and made my reality more palatable for understanding. Over time I have learned to communicate my dreams with refinement and clarity. The practice of creating art has paralleled my personal evolution. As I continue down the path, I am constantly refining that which I know and expanding upon that which I don’t. It has become a way of learning, growing and experiencing in this world.

I take influence directly from the environment around me. The people in my life provide me with the insight and guidance to understanding the human condition. Whether it is a closest loved one or a random homeless person on the street, I have always found people to be incredibly beautiful. Art is the medium in which I have the ability to reflect that beauty back to the viewer.

I take influence from the paintings themselves, for each one of them is a teacher. Each one has a spirit and a life of its own. They come to me in the form of thought and feeling, and guide me through their own creation. They teach me to be humble, patient and loving. Often times these works can extend beyond me as an individual. The pieces I make are capable of showing things to people that I will never understand. I do feel that I am creating these works, but equally so I am only channeling that which already desires to come though.

I take influence from great artists both of my time and of the past. I have always had an appreciation for many different types of art. Abstract, visionary, tribal, conceptual, classical and urban are all styles that I have drawn from. Creating has always made me feel that I am a part of something greater than myself as an individual. It reminds me that I am directly partaking in evolution. Ever since the earliest cave paintings, our symbols have been evolving to accurately reflect our environment. Thus as an artist, I am a part of a long lineage of people who are guiding culture and common belief. I feel it is my duty as so to evolve the symbols of our current time to stand for beauty, truth, and positivity.

These works are intended to inspire. To give hope and light to those who receive it. They are my prayers to the world in which I live in. -http://www.sethmcmahon.dreamhosters.com/bio/

Luke Brown

https://www.facebook.com/spectraleyes/

About

Luke Brown is an intrepid explorer, part of a new generation of visionaries recontructing the templates of culture as we know it. His art speaks of the spiritual mysteries in the human imagination. Mystical experiences, dreams, medicine journeys, and channelled lucid dialogues with the source of creativity itself, seem to guide and be guided by the colourful symmetries and living surfaces of his art. Much of his work emerges from a graceful synthesis of digital and painting mediums. Developing his work through mix and remix technologies, Luke is constantly redefining his style as a spiritual medium for growth. He is intent on mapping his hyperspatial experiences with utmost accuracy, with whichever medium seems best suited, as a form of multidimensional cartography. His art has been shown internationally with such visionary heavyweights such as Alex Grey, HR Giger, Robert Venosa and Ernst Fuchs. He is currently a resident of the lush Elfinstone rainforest in BC Canada, one of an infinite number of parallel universes in which he resides within simultaneously. -http://artcollider.net/luke-brown/

Michael Divine

http://www.tenthousandvisions.com/

About

Michael is at the forefront of a creative wave of modern contemporary art that draws inspiration from more than just art theory and intellectualized ideas of aesthetics. Driving this art is a belief in the power of the imagination and the human spirit. Michael’s bold and vivacious artwork falls in step with a long tradition of artists who base their work on their interpretive visions. With their imaginative wonder and deep spiritual underpinnings, his paintings reference ancient traditions, modern artistic explorations, and contemporary themes.

Michael’s artwork follows in the footsteps of the Symbolist movement of the late 1800’s as it progressed through the Modern Art movements of the early 1900’s. His work is as much inspired by Futurism, Impressionism, and Abstract Artists as it is by the Surrealists and the Fantastic Realists and today’s modern Visionary Art movement. From Wassily Kandinsky’s intuitive balance of line and color to the bold movements of Umberto Boccioni to the psychologically deductive landscapes of Salvador Dali, the elements of the past inform Michael’s art and provide a groundwork to build upon. His work continues a living artistic lineage and narrative adding a very present spiritual component to this artistic vision.

Passionate and serene at once, Michael Divine’s work speak the universal language of beauty. Drawing on his dreams and personal experiences and inspired by everything from art, architecture, and music to nature and the human condition, his work explores the merging of the inner and outer worlds. He translates this experience into breathtakingly sublime imagery that illustrates the journey of the inescapable phenomenon of human existence. -http://www.tenthousandvisions.com/about-me-michael-divine/biography-of-michael-divine/

Hakan Hisim

https://the-art-of-hakan-hisim.myshopify.com/

About

Hakan Hısım's art is deeply influenced by non-ordinary states of being. Esoteric imagery is a constant recurring pattern throughout his work.

His art shows an awe of the natural world, and its beautiful contrast with the alien, transpersonal nature of mystical experiences.

His often use of bold color schemes are used to accentuate this intrinsic contrast of micro and macro, of the familiar and the alien.

Striving to best express themes of Enlightenment, transcendence and similar mystical states, he has adopted the digital medium to create his art.

He believes that digital creation; the act of painting with light and electricity is the purest form of painting that is currently possible.

Removing oneself from the limitations of physical matter; the paint, pigment and canvas, catalyzes experimental creative freedom and propels the artist into unique realms of creativity.

Without being confined to the static image, he also creates Moving Paintings'. These are animated works of art, moving versions of his digital paintings that instill them with a dynamic 'lifelike' quality. -https://the-art-of-hakan-hisim.myshopify.com/pages/about-us

Robert Venosa

http://www.venosa.com/home.html

About

The Fantastic Realism art of Robert Venosa has been exhibited worldwideand is represented in major collections, including those of noted museums, rock stars and European aristocracy. In addition to painting, sculptingand film design (pre-sketches and conceptual design for the movie Dune, and Fire in the Sky for Paramount Pictures, and the upcoming Race for Atlantisfor IMAX), he has recently added computer art to his creative menu. Hiswork has been the subject of three books, as well as being featured in numerouspublications - most notably OMNI magazine - and on a number of CD covers, including those of Santana and Kitaro.

New York City born, Venosa was transported into the world of fine art in the late 60's after having experimented with psychedelics and having seen the work of the Fantastic Realists - Ernst Fuchs and Mati Klarwein in particular - both of whom he eventually met and studied under. Of his apprenticeship with Klarwein, Venosa says, "What a time (Autumn, 1970) that turned out to be! Not only did I get started in proper technique, but at various times I had Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Jackie Kennedy and the good doctor Tim Leary himself peering over my shoulder to see what I was up to.

That loft was the energy center in New York, and I reveled in it. And somehow, miraculously, in the midst of all the nonstop pandemonium taking place everyday I learned to lay the paint down properly. Even though it was ever putto the test , discipline was one of the more important necessities thatMati emphasized and - through his own adherence - strongly impressed onme: I could only join in the festivities after my work was done and allbrushes were washed. Mati taught well the techniques of painting and, evenmore relevant, of quality living. I'm honored to have been one of the fortunatefew to have studied with him."

Venosa moved to Europe in the early 70's settling in the celebrated Mediterraneanvillage of Cadaques in Spain, where he enjoyed the honorable and mightypleasure of getting to know and hang with neighbor Salvador Dali, as wellas the numerous notables in the world of art and literature who gravitatedto that magic locale. Much of Venosa's work and attendant exploits havebeen published in his book, Noospheres (Pomegranate Artbooks). In it Venosatalks of the attitudinal complications of his returning to the U.S. afteryears of living in Europe: "In 1982 - due to a number of commissions, commercial allurements and a burgeoning recognition of my work affordedthrough extensive exposure in OMNI magazine and on record album covers -I started traveling to the U.S., dividing my time there between New Yorkand Boulder, Colorado.

Enjoying the clear, clean mountainair and relatively sane consciousness of its populace, I settled on Boulderas my base in the States. Compared to the raucous, colorful activity ofCadaques, Boulder appeared somewhat anorexic. But the siren of success, along with the Muse of Mammon, wailed a seductive tune, irresistible inits promise but demanding in the changes deemed necessary if I were to singalong: The Merry Mediterranean mirage would have to give way to the AggressiveAmerican Kindergarten for a season or two. There would be exhibits to arrange, press releases to disseminate, collectors to romance, critics to confuseand an entirely new sense of art to cultivate. My idea of art, as previouslyunderstood, would require major surgery if I were to immerse myself in theAmerican standards and expectations of what that word represented.

The admiration and aristocratic respect given the artist in Europe is strippedclean upon arrival in the U.S. as these architects of culture are transmogrifiedinto novelty items and entertaining curiosities. The centuries-old traditionof dedication and perfection while working in the solitude of a tranquilstudio at the limited speed allowed by brush and paint is left at the gatesof the rapid-fire, nonstop, instant-sensual-gratification American sitcomculture. Trying to compete in the fast lane of the high-velocity illusionsand banal delusions of movies and TV poses a problem for the painter andhis two-dimensional immobile images. Nevertheless, the challenge, then asnow, of affecting the consciousness with more eternal value cannot be denied, and so, combining the historical deep roots of European culture with thedynamic of America's youthful energy, an attempt is constantly made". -http://www.venosa.com/bio.html
