Portrait Drawing Of The Year By EdgarsArt

This is oficially my best portrait drawing of 2017. Each year i am making around 50-100 portraits starting from requested drawings and just the ones i wanted to do on own. It is really hard to sum everything up and decide a think like- the best drawing or portrait from all of them but last year i did have one portrait that i did and which i liked myself. That does not happen often to be honest because i am extremely critical and i always want to change something or i wish i could re-do something. I do not even know what it would take for me to be happy with the work i do but some piecies have achieved that and this portrait is obe of them.

It was quite a chalange to draw both- Human and a cat in one piece,which is something i have not done often. I remember couple of years ago had a request for a drawing from America and i needed to draw a woman with her dog. A german shepherd and it was on 60*90 cm. Quite a large piece as you can imagine.
Now this drawing was smaller and i did this with graphite but on that one i used charcoal. To be honest i do not even know what i would like to change in this portrait. I guess i love that i managed to get that real- life feeling. It does look like they are together and the cat is not falling out of the picture. The only thing i do regret now is that at that time i was not using a mechanic pen. That would help a lot for sure. For small details and for the skin.

Each year i have some works which i consider the best ones i did in a particular year. I like to track my progress and to compare the development through the years. I also like to see where i am going and where i am heading. Which is why this new year is and will be completelly different for me artistically and the style of my works will change too. What changes will always survive. I strongly believe in that and for me this is something that comes from my emotions and art itself contains around 80% of my life. All of my thoughts go into in and what happens in my life will have an impact on my art too.
I could hide it of course but that would be lying and art i think is something that had to stay honest in this day in age when we have so many lies all around us. No need for more.
