My painting "The Spirit of Birds of the Field" Scenes of Nature Art Contest
The spirit of pheasant, quail and wildfowl protects my forest, field, and farmyard. This is my piece for #scenesofnature contest hosted by @sethlinson

I really wanted to do another female form in the guise of spirit or angel. I had done one for another contest the spirit of sea and sky.
I take a challenge that inspires me and give myself to work on one major piece that fits my own portfolio as well as the style of the contest. Merging the joy of my own art with the fun and community of Steemit.
Here is the pen after the pencil sketch for the finalized layout.
And here is a gif showing some of the MANY layers I use to make such a painting. I am just in under the wire, I think, as I have been working on this piece daily for the entire week and it's just the deadline now for the contest. I hope I made it in time, if not I am still happy with having made this work.

Beautiful painting! I especially love her face, and the gorgeously colorful pheasant - it almost looks illuminated.
Thank you I used pheasant breast feathers as the inspiration for the background.

Well, there are other nice pieces, so we will see. I just like to enter these because it's really a good way to focus my normal weekly art schedule. Last time I got an honourable mention but it still got me a steem dollar, so that was good. I'll take it!

I love the spirit and the pheasant , the wings f the spirit and the background seem a little unfinished though like you are not quite done yet with the work. But none the less I really love this piece ...
It kind of is not perfect yet, but I took this painting on this week for a contest and this was the level it was by today, so actually I will finish up the wings more before I share it again for my Bescouted collection, so good eye.
Looks finished to me - the ruffled look works for me. But the hardest thing is always to know when the work is finished and not to over-work it. I love the way this protectoress glows.
Thank you. I always like a rougher painterly look, but I will most like touch up the wings just a bit. Having decided to do my weekly art work in conjunction with Steemit contests is great for meeting my deadlines and I am hoping it will also improve my speed in my workds. :)
