This is an amazing piece. I don't understand how you can make the skin tone look so realistic. It's so realistic that it's difficult to believe that it's a drawing :) If you didn't show the progress photos I would have said that it's a photograph.

I like the guy standing strong and smiling even though there is this sorrow behind him trying to pull the rope around his neck. It's a great symbol of what you're trying to say with this drawing.

And now.. who is this boy? You had to have some inspiration for something so detailed :)
