Good evening,
From time to time I'll drop a quick work-in-progress post in between the normal long format posts.

This portrait is just a small portion of a larger painting. I don't usually paint like this: high detail first before moving on. Normally I jump around the painting and bring things up together, with focal area slightly ahead. This new challenge is exciting to me. And I never thought I'd say it but....I'm having fun with this tiny ass brush. 😱 😁

Here was an earlier stage before getting started on the detail:

It's hard to leave any ''smart comment'' on such masterly done painting @davidcheifetz..Small brushes can be fun, sometimes ..but only sometimes :) It's much nicer hitting canvas with wide strokes.

Thank you 😊. I agree, big juicy strokes are so satisfying.

Palette knives are good fun also! =)

Looks superb David. Its always good to experiment and step outside of your comfort zones. Looking forward to the finished piece.

A beautiful portrait! I like working out the face and unprocessed background, this has its own beauty. Are you planning to continue or so leave?

Thank you! yes will continue, lots left to do on this painting!

Can't wait to see the whole painting finished. Believe it or not it reminded me of Caravaggio at first :)

Awesome!! 😃 Thank you

I really love this piece @davidcheifetz. I don't know what it is but i'm hooked on the juxtaposition of a high detail finish and loose 'unfinished' strokes in the same composition . Somehow, for me, if feels more like a painting...

Thank you! I'm partial to that sort of juxtaposition as well. High detail looks the most special when relative to less detail. I strive to save most detail for just the focal area, but restraint is hard sometimes, yknow? :) :p

Absolutely! Knowing when to stop is a surprisingly difficult skill to master :)

I love your oil paintings brother, very inspiring! I'm an artist myself, I tend to bounce around to different mediums but here is one of my oil paintings

The portrait was done in color pencil but the rest is oil. Gotta love that vibrance that the oil paint provides!
